What about Gatchaman as a toku series?

I was reading that as of June 21 the Imagi Gatchaman CG animation project was offically declared dead. This got me to thinking about the idea of not only a live-action Gatchaman but also one done as an actual tokusatsu in Japan.

I think there's a couple of ways they could go with such a project. Either a live-action adaptation of the anime which would be fine with me or possibly even having a new team of characters as a second generation team. Basically the live-action series would be a follow up to the anime. Not that it would need to be a team composed entirely of future-kids, though I think maybe having Nambu's daughter as the teams overseer and possibly Ken's son as G1 could be cool.

For the suits I would want them to keep it simple and sleek, not make it overly busy with a lot of armor, extra lines and kibble. Though I could also see using the designs from the 90's OAV as the basis for the live suits as well.

For casting I could see Kanna Mori (Natsumi) as a possible Jun. Not sure about everyone else. Though likely most of the cast would end up being unknowns anyway.

Or......maybe they would take the ideas of the anime promos of 2000 version of Gatchaman and actually make it as remake of the original series.

I knew someone was gonna pop in with that. Jetman is clearly inspired by Gatchaman but it's not the same thing.

Not a bad idea, but more likely I'd suspect they consider such a thing redundant. You want a group of teens in spandex? You've got Sentai. Not to say it couldn't be made different or that it wouldn't work/be entertaining, but from a business standpoint, why be redundant AND have to face off with the proverbial 800-pound gorilla to boot? It's an uphill battle that you'd likely loose.

Still, it is kind of a shame that they declared the thing dead. Given the quality of the recent Thundercats premiere, a reboot of Gatchaman would have fit well once translated as a sort of 'new retro' block of programming. Especially if it was given the same care and respect that is apparent in the Thundercats reboot so far.

Supposedly, Takashi Miike is working on a tokusatsu movie adaptation of Gatchaman, just as he did with Yatterman.

I just hope that they don't drop the production on this one.
