Well in this case its not comic elitism, well if you word it better than Skynight did. The movie is not Alan Moore's Watchmen, its Zack Snyder's Watchmen. You see this movie drained a lot of the substance and characterization the comic had, and that was really what the comic was about its substance and characterization. Its what happens when you have a director that stated he didn't understand parts and characters of the comic (And a director that hires friends and family instead of people that are qualified :redface2
Thats why Alan Moore said this movie is trash, it drained pretty much the point of his story from a director who he deems a douchebag childish pig (look at 300) that doesn't understand anything. And well because all of the previous movies based on his comics except for V for Vendetta were terrible.
Besides not a single person with any intelligence would want a Watchmen Sequel. If you want a Watchmen 2 (or WatchmeX the movie) you also want Forrest Gump 2, Good Will Hunting 2, The Pursuit of Happiness Part 3, and so on.
Very well put. Some aspects of Watchmen just don't transfer to a movie. Components like the commentary Watchmen makes on society may transfer to some extent, but you can't have the commentary it makes on comic books... In fact, the very existence of a movie contradicts some of that in the first place.
