Vertigo to remake "Death Note" for U.S.

I generally prefer my protagonists to be somewhat likable, and not insufferable douche bags. Having the bad guy (and that IS what he is) as the main character has been done many times before, and significantly better.

Cant blame you for that. But Light wasnt hard to like even though he was a villain. Personally, I didnt watch the show because I liked Light. I got hooked on it because the cat and mouse game that spawned between him and L was genius. It had me wanting to know what would happen next as they each dug their own holes in their little game.

If the Western version keeps that intact, then you have a blockbuster.
 
I'm not gonna join the crowd shouting 'garbage'. Personally, I was kinda indifferent about the Death Note movies. I can't wait to see if they can be improved upon when remade.

That's a good dynamic, but for me, I still need characters I care about for it to work. Otherwise there's nothing really at stake. It's just Spy vs Spy.
