Look at that Dino Thunder episode. Connor didn't like Abaranger at first but by the end of the episode he loved it. That whole episode was about how something different can still have value and be awesome.
Yeah, but then they credit the whole episode to a guy who is definitely not Japanese. If you weren't already a fan who knew about Sentai, you would conclude from that episode that the credited writer came up with the whole thing. That is kind of the point of writing credits, so you know who did what (and who deserves either praise or blame for it). That's at best contradictory and at worst entirely hypocritical.
Maybe there was some business reason why they couldn't credit the original writers, but chances are nobody ever considered it. Even in cases where Japanese scripts were adapted, Power Rangers never credited the Japanese writers until Power Rangers Samurai. And there's no working writer who's going to be cool with the idea of someone using their scripts and not crediting them... or even worse,
taking credit for them.
I mean Sakamoto works for Sentai and if Sakamoto hated PR then...I guess I just don't understand the world anymore.
Sakamoto's opinion is likely very different. This is probably due in large part to Sakamoto having received a proper on-screen credit for what he did while working on Power Rangers. It's kind of weird, actually? All of the Japanese guys who work on the original footage stunts and action sequences have always gotten credit, so those guys can use PR to further their careers. It's just the writers for whom PR is perhaps worse than useless.
That's really quite interesting (that Kobyashi received credit for PR Samurai). Do you know why there's this difference between her and the other writers?
The going theory is that it's because Samurai featured so little original material. The basic framework of the original Shinkenger plot is there, and entire scenes in Samurai are direct translations of their Shinkenger counterpart. I imagine it also looks good for something called "Power Rangers Samurai" to flash a Japanese name up among the writing credits every episode.
Except if it happens with Faiz, then it's a diaper pile of stinky. :loltongue:
That's what people think about Faiz now, but at the time it was coming out, people took it completely seriously. And Inoue's interviews about Faiz are basically talking about the show as if it was a work of *~great artistic merit~*. I would say wanting a work like that under his belt is probably why Inoue insisted on writing all of Faiz.
It was caused by someone else, not Luna.
I feel like we're probably going to find out, at some point, that all of the painful/embarrassing delusions were caused by General Pain. Perhaps by him editing Wikipedia, or just being as deluded as Nobuo. General Pain is clearly the sort of fan who likes some seasons more than others, and might resent popular seasons that took attention away from his favorites.
