What's amazing about TRON is that despite being over a quarter of a decade old, it hardly feels outdated. I mean, you could take Kevin Flynn and place him in the year 2008 as a game developer and he would fit perfectly, wit and all.
The film was groundbreaking in both it's visual style and use of visual effects. I would love to see a new sequel. In the mean time, I just started playing TRON 2.0 ... which I guess sort of counts as a sequel in itself.
The only problem is that the people that made TRON actually "got it" so to speak. For all of the fantastical elements, it was done with a level respect in regards to technology, games and the people involved. It worked. Most often nowadays, television and films tend to paint this sort of thing a negative tone (i.e. the loser techie guy) or they have no idea and make things X-TREEEEEEMME!! OH YEEEAHH!
Can history repeat itself? I have hope, but I'm not really sure ...
