Tron: Ares is here…literally. The first released trailer from Disney confirms what’s been a rumored premise for months: Programs are escaping into the real world. Cops are in pursuit of a speeder on the highway, but there’s not much they can do when it turns out to be a light cycle whose wall carves their car in half. Space Paranoids are descending on our cities and smashing skyscrapers. We need help…we need the guy in the title! But it looks like he’s not available, so we’ll settle for the guy in the subtitle. “Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings,” reads Disney’s synopsis. There’s nothing here implying he’s sinister…at least not yet. Tron: Legacy hinted at the potential of Programs crossing over into reality, and it looks like Tron: Ares will continue to explore the possibilities of that (plus, we imagine it’s cheaper to shoot in “real” environments).
