Uh, when did Golden Media ever hold the R1 Ultra Series license? Also, since nobody has shown any official documents regarding the licensing stuff, I'm more inclined to believe kpa over anyone else for now.
It was Keith. The post I quoted has his name in the signature. Just click on the little arrow for the thread it was from.
Also, Ragone specifically mentioned on his blog comments that he has no clue how the hell Golden Media even got the license, so that in itself sounds... fishy, to say the least.
Also, this is just speculating, but the fact that no Showa Ultra Series has been released by Tsuburaya's Malaysia/region 3 affiliate, Speedy Video (except for the "compilation" films) makes me suspect that Chaiyo still has a hold on this stuff somehow.
(also, in case anyone's wondering, yes, Speedy Video in Malaysia do have the legit TPC license. Tsuburaya even made an announcement on their own site. See here and scroll down to the entry dated 05/18/2010)
Point is this kind of thing is common. Now I don't know which SciFi Japan staff member you talked to, I know several myself, but I have yet to hear anything regarding Chaiyo's involvement as definitive as what you posted and as I've posted have heard the exact opposite from August Ragone who is very close to Tsuburaya Pro.

I'm not sure what "the court's decision" refers to, but it might be the verdict that judges in some countries still acknowledge Chaiyo's "contract" as legit. I mean, if this really did indirectly come from Tsuburaya, why would they even want to overturn the court's decision? Not sure how Golden acquired them, but it's legitimate and legal at this time — unless Tsuburaya is able to overturn the court's decision at some point in the future.
Key word there being "were". I'm pretty sure Tsuburaya haven't been affiliates of Chaiyo since at least the 1990s. Any Chaiyo affiliates now most likely don't include Tsuburaya. The post says that GMG got their copies of Utraseven from a Japanese affiliate of Chaiyo, which is honestly really vague. Tsuburaya Pro. themselves were affiliates of Chaiyo. Hell they were business partners for years until Chaiyo tried to rip them off and it turned into the Ultra Galaxy Legends Mega Monster Court Battle Saga.
