One of the finest entries in the highly competitive 1980s afterschool syndication market was Thundercats, Rankin-Bass’ epic anime-like story of a tribe of cat people marooned on the planet of Third Earth after their homeworld was destroyed by the Mutants of Plun-Darr. The leader of the Mutants, Mumm-Ra, pursued them still, but the Thundercats’ leader, Lion-O, was no slouch with a sword. Marvel began printing a Thundercats comic book almost immediately after the cartoon hit the airwaves. Released under their new Star imprint, the book would be scripted by David Micheline and Gerry Conway and would last until 1988, printing 24 bi-monthly issues in all (switching to a monthly schedule in 1987). Currently the Thundercats comic license is held by Dynamite Entertainment, and they plan to use it not just to tell new stories, but to revive the old. Dynamite has announced the Thundercats Classic Years Omnibus: hundreds of pages of classic Third Earth lore, pulled directly from the past and reprinted for the first time in forty years.”Thunder! Thunder! Thundercats! Hooooooo! At long last!” teases Dynamite. “The Thundercats return with beautifully remastered tales that have been out of print for four decades! Thundercats? Hoooo! This is epic! A classic Thundercats comic collection by Dynamite? Sign me up, meow! I practically grew up glued to the cartoon, cheering on Lion-O and the gang as they battled Mumm-Ra and his evil Mutants. Now I can relive all those epic adventures in comic form!

This sounds intriguing! Never watched the cartoon growing up, but this comic collection revival has me curious. The whole "cat people on another planet" thing sounds pretty wild! Plus, the epic battles against evil Mumm-Ra? Sounds like classic hero vs. villain stuff, which I can always get behind. I wonder if the remastered stories will be easy for someone new to the franchise to jump into? The preview page on PopGeeks might have some clues. Either way, this could be a cool way to discover a piece of 80s cartoon history.

Thundercats comics by Dynamite? Cool! But is there a digital release planned? I love the convenience and accessibility of digital comics – perfect for on-the-go reading. Plus, with a limited Backerkit physical release, a digital option would be a great way to make these classic stories available to a wider audience. Imagine being able to instantly download these Thundercats adventures onto your phone or tablet! Hopefully, Dynamite will consider offering both physical and digital options for this collection. Until then, I'll definitely check out the preview page and see what details they reveal. Who knows, maybe the digital release will even include some bonus features like behind-the-scenes content or creator commentary!

Dude, this is huge news! Thundercats was a huge part of my childhood. I can't wait to dive back into those classic stories. I'm definitely backing this on Kickstarter or whatever it is. I'm gonna geek out so hard when I get my hands on this omnibus!

I love retro stuff, and Thundercats is definitely a classic. I'll probably pick up the omnibus, especially if it has some cool behind-the-scenes stuff. I can't wait to see what Dynamite does with this franchise.
