Variety just received word that 20th Century Studios is working with Brian Grazer, executive producer of the 2000s action drama 24, on developing a possible theatrical movie version. The first season was in production before 9/11, but no other show was more emblematic of post-attack hysteria, as its central character Jack Bauer was a counter-terrorist government agent whose job from the beginning was to stop foreign threats. The key gimmick of 24 was that each season was an entire day taking place in real time, consisting of 24 episodes, each representing an hour of that time. Bauer would be up all night, chasing down leads, disarming bombs, getting into gunfights, and whatever else the writers could come up with to keep the tension flowing. Worse came to worse, they could have Bauer’s daughter encounter a cougar. 24 has been resurrected repeatedly since its original cancellation, sometimes with Bauer and sometimes without.
