The Thing (2011 Prequel) discussion ... its not a remake!

Just to add of my friend seeing the film being "****" in his eyes. It's because he's not big on the horror-genre and never cared for these kind of flicks... so it's his loss, lol. FK, your post gives me hope. When it hits Blu-ray, I'll give it a chance all the way.

Finally watched it and it actually turned out pretty good. If you loved the 1982 film then this one is perfect for you.

The monster designs were spot on tribute to the 1982 Thing monsters as well. I was surprised at that. Good acting, lots of suspense, and pretty much the exact same formula as the Kurt Russell film.

Even the final form of the thing which used some CGI was very, very well done. The trailer didn't do this film justice.

That makes me want to give the film a chance, and a little scared deep down inside. Those monster designs MESSED ME UP as a kid, I was way too young when I saw the first Thing. Whatever I'm a grown ass man I can handle it.

I didn't like that trailer, it just seemed that it spelled out the entire plot. People who never saw the original will already know the entire plot without even seeing the movie.

Yep, a day 1 blu-ray buy for me.

The highlight was the monster designs. I was going into this one really worried about the monsters and hoping they'd do the 1982 version at least a bit of justice and in the end they went full throttle. It's like if you watched this movie without knowing the film title and you saw the monsters you'd automatically think it's THE THING Part 2. That's how spot on with the monster designs they were. Shocked the hell out of me.

I also found out the one dude who worked on this film also worked on the Dawn of the Dead remake so that also makes sense as to why it was a good monster movie.

Now if you don't like the 1982 The Thing then this film prolly wont be for you as The Thing is an acquired taste.

Oh FK, was it very gory in comparison of the 1982 original or is it toned down?

Same. Nothing was toned down in this movie. They even had that creepy song from the 1982 version, you know the "dun dun... dun dun" at the beginning of this one.

What I will do is when this comes out on Blu-ray, I'll watch this and then the 1982 film back to back for the full story. It'll be like watching The Thing for the very first time.

I loved the film thought it was brilliant, also prefer it to the original mostly cause I find the original a bit dated and a bit to much talk at times.

:) also Mary Winstead <3

The original looks dated.... Hmmmmm, well for one, it was a film from the 1950s.

This remake was simply bad. The CGI was really bad. I have seen better CGI in low budget Japanese toku. There was nothing in this that made it stand out. John Carpenters The Thing not only had scares, but it had better special effects and it came out in 1982.

the original The Thing, that this is a prequal to is from 1982 and this is in no way connected to the 1950's film I am ofcourse refereing to the fact that although Carpenters was a remake it was more faithful to the source material.

O.o also I didnt mean it in that way im just saying the original from 1982 is quite dated now and I didnt say that was a bad thing, I personally prefer the puppets and anamatronics from that one over the CGI in the newer one

but over all I still prefer the new prequal, infact id say if you watch this prequal then the original you a almost complete story :)

edit: man my spelling and grammer is getting worse >.< FML!
