The "Say Something Nice About Go-Onger" Thread!

You're right. It was a boring toy commercial and a broken record as far as characterizations went. "Samurai" was a misleading title.

Ok, I agree with you on that...but you say it was a bring toy commercial right? Thing is even with all It's merch. They still didn't make them the "main" part of the show.

So what is too you, a fun toy commercial?

It doesn't? I sure as hell see it used often as a response to criticisms.

This raises the question of if the "flaws" you see are things that are actually wrong with the show or you're just unhappy it doesn't cater to your personal sensibilities.

From past experience, it seems you have trouble telling the difference.

Well I don't accept that, and I don't enjoy the shows that overly emphasize so-called "kiddy" material.

Case in point. What do you consider unacceptable "kiddy" material, if I may ask?

Name me an example of when such material really enhanced the story.

Again, what is it you consider the material in question and what do you mean by "enhancing the story"?

To be on the original topic, do you mean stuff like how all the different Engines that kept popping up and how they interacted with the cast as a whole made everyone more dynamic or gave a better idea of what made them tick?

Or did you mean stuff like... I dunno, the Gaiark turning some kid's little mascot dog into a horrible monster that rips out and eats the kids entrails? Since, y'know, dark, horrible violence must make a story "deeper" right?

You mean there weren't any episodes devoted to gaining an Origami or Hiden Disc?

There are no fun toy commercials. The best superhero media are those that don't make the merchandise showcasing so overt or let everything revolve around the merchandise.

A lot of the material in recent Sentais and even Riders that dumb down things.

That in itself isn't a problem. It's how they went about it that's questionable.

Or did you mean stuff like... I dunno, the Gaiark turning some kid's little mascot dog into a horrible monster that rips out and eats the kids entrails? Since, y'know, dark, horrible violence must make a story "deeper" right?

Which a sarcastic remark like that, you clearly have an incorrect notion of what folks who don't like the oversaturation of wackiness in tokus want.

The story in what?

I mean, most of this stuff comes from Doraemon, and that's a classic.

I don't follow.

Are you objecting to broad physical comedy and other kiddie anime tropes existing in general, or just existing in Super Sentai?

A lot of the material in recent Sentais and even Riders that dumb down things.

That still doesn't answer my question though. You're not defining what you consider "dumbing down".

I am exaggerating somewhat for effect, but I have seen plenty of arguments in all forms of super hero media where they actually do feel this kind of scenario would show how "grown-up" it was.

Hell, it's even a reference to a fairly infamous incident in DC comics.
