The Official Comic Book Discussion Thread

Figure since its not really been done yet I'd make a comics thread. What are you reading, what's your favorite, what comics can you not wait to read, etc...

Personally, I've become a DC fanboy since that abortion of a storyline Bendis did with Avengers. Sad thing is, I LIKED Bendis. I was convinced that he could continue the trend that Geoff Johns and Kurt Busiek had left of a totally definitive Avengers run. Then he did Avengers: Disassmbled. It wasn't a BAD story...well, aside from glaring continuity errors and way off characterizations....it just felt so rushed. Some of my favorite characters were killed in the space of a few pages, and it just felt like it was done for shock factor. Basically, I don't like the direction Marvel is heading in right now, but I'll be back as soon as its all good again.

In the meantime....make mine DC. (Due to lack of time, I'll have to come back and finish this post later.)

I've been down with DC since I hit college. Marvel's more about being spectacular, events and in your face graphics, where DC was about story and storytelling.

Mosty, I've been sticking to tradepaper backs. I'm all caught up on Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, picked up The Watchmen to read again, and am a devoted follower of The Ultimates... when it comes out. :P

Should be quite interesting once Joe Maderiera jumps onto the book... and probably even more delayed. :P

The only comics I collect are the classic Batman DC Comics. Most of them are issues #400 and above and #600 and above. I really love the works of Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle. My best and unforgettable moment was when I bought #627 because its Bats' 600th appearance!

And therein lies the problem of most good Marvel books. Delayed.

My current favorite books from Marvel are Iron Man, Young Avengers, and I DID like Academy X, but they changed it, so let's say Brubaker's Capt. America.

And, its funny that you say DC has the stories, when most people are quick to hope on the "Marvel for Mature Comics" train. Maybe that was true in the 60's. But in the 90s and now? Not happening.

I love DC so much. Right now I'm reading Teen Titans, JSA, JSA Classified, JLA, JLA Classified, Infinite Crisis, all the Seven Soldiers books, and all the All-Star books. I'm sure there are more, but up to this point I've been trying to catch up with some of the classics:

Starman
Invisibles
Transmetropolitan

And a few other comics.

Joe Mad's back? Finally--I was wondering where he'd been since Battle Chasers.

I've been sticking with mainly Uncanny X-Men, now that the Shi'Ar's put out this intergalatic hit on the Grey family, and Infinite Crisis. Marvel's Civil War sounds interesting, too.

Hmmm... interesting thread but the titles should says... The Official Comic Book Thread.

Anywho... I'm a huge fan of Batman and Superman. So personally, I have a several graphic novel.

Superman
Batman
Justice League of America

And I need to start to collect Teen Titans as well.

He worked for game companies, but nothing that he developed came out as far as I know.

I could tell you what's in my pull right now, but it's a lot... I spend at least twenty bucks every Wednesday.

Some off the top of my head:
New Avengers (it does not suck)
Amazing Spider-Man
X-Factor
Green Lantern
JSA
Astonishing X-Men
Ultimate X-Men
Ultimate FF
Ultimate Spider-Man
Ultimate Galactus Trilogy (Nightmare/Secret/Extinction)
Infinite Crisis
Incredible Hulk
Spider-Woman: Origin
Powers
Seven Soldiers minis
Thunderbolts

... that's all I can think of at the moment.

hmmm.. comics..

Yeah, I used to read comics when I was a kid back in Berlin Germany. Most of which were the cheap stuff that came from Supermarkets. Only a few I could remember, Garfield, Teenage Mutant Hero/Ninja/ Turtles, Looney Tunes, Michey Mouse (this was YEARS before I even knew what a Power Ranger was). I used to destroy my comics and cut pictures out of them and make them into rubbish little collages. GOD!! what was I thinking!!

The Beano and The Dandy I used to read. If you lived in Britain you'd know what that is. For those unfamilar, it's like Shonen Jump, like an assortment of different characters (Dennis the Menace, the Backstreet Kids, Billy the Kidd, Desperate Dan, and many others I can't remember) only it's not Manga, and not as cool!!* :P

*OK that was a bit harsh, since I used to like Dennis the Menace. He was cool, and still is.

Nowadays, the only Comics I read are strictly Manga (or atleast something Japan related). Here's my collection (which you may've seen before)

But I don't read them very much, heck I haven't read them for weeks!! Because I was too busy doing many things, and one of them was working on my Ranger Project website.

And speaking of which..

Pretty much only comics I collect anymore are Transformers.
I used to be a HUGE comics nerd, but w/ all the other REALLY expensive hobbies I have now that I collect, comics took a back seat. Not to mention that it's pretty expensive nowdays for a single book.

I REALLY hate to sound like a prick (I will anyways) but...let's keep the manga out of this thread, please? Manga gets a whole forum to itself. Comics gets...this, basically.

And if a mod/admin wishes to change this into "The Official Comic Book Thread", they're definitely welcome to.

I noticed FreedomBlade had a lot of Ultimate comics, so I figured I'd post my take on those:

Like most Marvel books, I USED to love them. In fact, after my friend downloaded Sandman (which he later bought in trades) and gave a copy to me, I got back into comics and the Marvel Universe was the first thing I started reading about, since they had most of my favorite writers there. And I used to be addicted to Ultimate stuff. But as they went on, and started to introduce characters that no one really cared that much about in the regular Marvel-verse, I realized that the potential the Ultimate Universe had had been wasted. I still admire them greatly for what they are: An updated version of the Marvel Universe that can be given to the new generation to get them into comics. But they could've taken the Ultimate U and went into a whole different direction after intro'ing the most basic heroes and villains from the 616 verse.

....Oh, and for the record, is anyone disturbed that the main Marvel Universe is titled 616, which is supposedly the Number of the beast? (Some believe 666 was a translation error.)
