The New Rob Zombie film is...

"Over 25 years and a lot of movies, a very scary character became something of a Halloween cliche, with Michael Myers dolls that play the Halloween music when you press their stomachs. By the end of the sequel cycle, there was little connection to the original. I take that film very seriously, and I want to make it terrifying again."

Before signing on, Zombie said he sought out Carpenter, who has had several of his films remade.

"The original 'Halloween' is hallowed ground to me, and I talked to him about it and he was very supportive of what I wanted to do," Zombie said.

I told em too Bolt. See, whatever you think of Zombie as a director, the truth is that there are very few people in the world who eat, sleep, drink, and BLEED horror like Zombie does. And that quote summed up exactly the problems I had with the sequels. This one is gonna be by a horror fan, for horror fans.


For those who are worried that Zombie is too zany for HalloweeN, take a look back at the difference in styles between House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. They are so different, and they represent the leap in maturity that Zombie has taken since House. I think this is gonna work. If they had their hearts set on a remake, there are VERY few who i think would do a better job than Rob.

I don't think the change in style from House to Devil's Rejects was a maturity thing, I think he deliberately went for a different style with the sequel. If I'm right, and he's a director that can change his styles at will, then I expect great things from the new Halloween.

I never said anything insulting towards Rob Zombie. I just would prefer to see Carpenter's so-to-speak "mentor" take on the project. I am a big fan of Argento's writing and directing and see all his qualities in Halloween that Carpenter used. And would like Carpenter to feel honored, that the man he praises take a crack at his legend.

This past Christmas we celebrated at my uncle`s house.He actually wanted us to watch The Devil`s Rejects.

Let me tell you,nothing,NOTHING says Christmas more than a Rob Zombie movie.

I have tremendous respect for Rob Zombie as an artist, musician, and a whole crapload of everything else. Not only is he a genius (ISTR once reading that he's actually a certified genius), he doesn't actually care about it, and is constantly taking pains to not take himself too seriously. I've never been a big fan of the Halloween movies (the first one, the only good one IMO, still isn't half as good as John Carpenter's best horror movie, Prince of Darkness), and John Carpenter hasn't been worth crap as a writer or director since somewhere around They Live, but I trust Rob Zombie to at least get it as good as the original, if not better.

laudre, you should check out Carpenter's CIGARETTE BURNS, his entry into the Masters of Horror Showtime series. It's pretty good.


As for Prince of Darkness, I will say that it's one of his best. I expected it to be crappy, as i had heard bad things about it, then i watched it and BAM!!! Sucker punch to the nuts. Great fucking flick. In Fact, that was the first movie where i almost pissed myself from a jump scare. It's the last scare of the film. Laudre knows what I'm talking about. Holy **** that one got me the first time i saw it.


I think the fact that the Halloweens havent been good for a LOOONNNGGG time is in fact the BEST reason to start over. Rebuild Myers as a character. Make him scary. That's the reason why I came to love the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. By TCM Next generation, there was nothing left of the intense, scary Leatherface from the first film.


I think after this they need to STOP REMAKING CARPENTER FILMS before they ruin his best stuff, like The Thing, Escape from New York, and Big Trouble in Little China.
