The Grudge

Alright tonight is the chance i have to watch the Grudge on PPV

so I was ready to order

but to my shock... on my ROGERS ON DEMAND they have Ju-On: The Grudge w. english subtitles.

So I can either pay a few bucks for the American version (and to see sexy Buffy) OR just watch the apparent better/darker/scarier original Japanese version.

This wouldn't be so difficult if i didn't love sexy blondes lol.

Scary Scene wise, what is the different between the 2? was more **** added in the American?.

Usually if I watch a horror movie, it's not for the sexy women, but that's just me. In this instance, the American Grudge is your best bet. But Ju-On is far scarier and the scenes aren't all jump moments; besides, the American movie was a hackneyed copy of the original anyway. You should just pay for the original (which is better) and then look for pictures of Sarah Michelle Gellar on the internet.

Bah! Sarah Michelle Gellar is about as appealing as Skeletor...the original had GoGoFive's Monika Sakaguchi/Kayoko Shibata, who I prefer. Both are in **** movies, though...somebody stop Takashi Shimizu, damn it!

Ju-On isn't ****... it's one of the best Asian horror films in recent years. Jeez, it's better than the movie you're "advertising" in your avatar. Ichi the Killer, while not being horror, was one of the most overhyped films of all time, and when I saw it I realized that it wasn't AT ALL different from every other goddamn movie Miike's ever made. I want my $30 back.

Different strokes, I guess...I couldn't tolerate Ju-On at all. I bought into the damn advertising -- it looked like Ring, but scary! It made Ring seem action packed, though. What's really scary about a naked white kid who mews like a cat? Then again, I've never been a fan of haunted house horror flicks.

And, come on, Ichi the Killer wasn't setting out to be a revolutionary addition to the world of film -- just a trashy gore fest that's supposed to be fun. Miike doesn't pretend to be some sort of brilliant, amazing filmmaker like Shunsuke Kaneko or think he's changing the world of movies like Ryuhei Kitamura. And it is different from his other movies! It has more personality than most of his stuff. "Audition," now there's Miike's most overhyped piece of **** barely qualifying as horror.

Haha, I see your point.

or think he's changing the world of movies like Ryuhei Kitamura.

Now here I disagree. Kitamura may not be changing the world of filmmaking, but he's definitely revolutionized the way action films are made and shot, and I think he's a pretty visionary director, definitely my favorite.

This is also true. I'm reminded of the great Deadly Outlaw Rekka. How awesome, even though the entire movie was random and pretty much pointless! I can't think of anything Kaneko has done that I've liked, if we're talking about the same Kaneko (Gamera director?), but I'll see Azumi 2 just to see the direction he takes it in after Kitamura turned it down.

"Audition," now there's Miike's most overhyped piece of **** barely qualifying as horror.

Agreed. I was expecting the "torture" scene to be as gut-wrenching as I'd heard, but it turned out to be sort of an exclamation mark at the end of a mediocre film. Even the vomit part wasn't that sick--I get popups of that kind of **** every time I get online. :shakefist

well technically he wasnt white. And Jun-on I have to see. The Grudge sucked. I cant bare to watch the premiere later this fall. And did Monika change her name after leaving tokusatsu? Green Ranger did the same thing. But he dead now. I said he dea.

Partially knowing your tastes, Knight, I do not think you'd like The Grudge at all. Maybe I'm jaded, but it's just about the most unscary scary movie I've ever seen -- somewhere in between a "Scream" and "Critters." It makes those Ring movies seem action packed.

I also made the mistake of watching the originals, which are all like the remake -- boring, boring crap. I really don't understand how they've let this writer/director make 1,500 of these movies. And they even let him direct the remake!

And no, I'm not the kind of person who has no patience for slower paced horror films and needs slice-em-ups -- my favorite horror film is the original Exorcist, which is SLOW in its first half -- but, damn it, if you're going to call yourself a horror film, put in some damn horror! I think The Grudge flicks prove that it doesn't take much to scare the Japanese. A naked boy painted white, screeching like a cat...? A broad with long hair, sounding like creaky floorboards? It's stuff that made me laugh my balls off when I saw them in the movie. I don't think there's been one good "haunted house" flick, but The Grudge is certainly among the lamer ones I've seen.

What are you high?! Scream was scary as hell. except "2"

Scream was stupid. It was as predictable as every other slasher flick ever made but even lacking *decent* (and I use that term loosely) actors. I mean, if you're going for even the least bit frightening with your villains, Mathew Lillard isn't your best choice. The only cool part was watching Drew Barrymore get whacked, because, yeah, I don't care for Drew Barrymore.

You didn't dig Amityville?
