The Future of HD.

Soooo.... now that the battle is over and Blue-Ray has won, what does everyone think?

What will happen?

From what I'm seeing, it looks like MS wasn't really betting on HD DVD, and they don't seem really shook up over its failing.

I would actually be fully for subscription based digital downloads if they hook up with Netflix. A point was made on a podcast that when it comes to movies or anything, I do pretty much watch 'em once and then never again.

I'm finding with Netflix, I kinda prefer it. Keeps from crowding my shelf space and I save money.

I haven't been keeping up with all of this but does this mean from now on DVDs will be released as "DVD & Also availible on Blu Ray", rather then "DVD & also availible on HD DVD"?

Unless Blu-Ray's sales suddenly soar to the heavens now that they've won, the victory won't mean a thing. DVDs are still king.

I find it funny that Sony haven't announced how smug they are feeling right now. Smug about everything else they shouldn't be, but thw thing they've won they are not. Perhaps they are just waiting a little longer to do it.

**** all this HD ****. I'm pissed off because I own like a bazillion DVDs and now they're trying to make a format switch again, fucking tech geeks CEOs. >:(

Now that Toshiba/HD-DVD is out of the way, all the blu needs to do is to overtake DVD as the standard format. It took 10 years for DVD to take over VHS... but I suspect with the growing popularity of HDTVs, it'll take less time.

Blu Ray Discs are compatible with HD TVs right?... I guess I'd just need to buy a Blu Ray player?.

Sorry, when it comes to this kinda stuff I'm a virgin.

Um ... last time I checked Blu-Ray is HD. Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are high definition formats. The names are actually referring to the type of disc technology used to create each or them.

As for what will happen now that there is only one? No more consumer confusion I guess? I'm more interested in Blu-Ray/HD-DVD as a storage medium personally.
