Wow great find. Great job finding my thread also, I would of went through hell looking for it. lol

I didn't think Ace would be taller than normal. I wonder where the actor's head is in that suit.

What's up with that person's pants? The one next to GT-02.

Can someone please post more stuff like this? It's interesting. I always thought they filmed these scenes indoors.

They are filmed indoors for the most part in Sentai. Only recently starting with Go-Busters they're trying to break out of the mold.

But...why? What advantages does that give as opposed to doing robot scenes indoors? I can't think of any.

Someone has to move all the equipment to the area. Weather can become an issue. In hotter seasons the actors in those heavy suits are gonna be in some trouble. There will be more digital work to remove the environment around them depending on the shots they take (grass, ect).

Doing everything outside as opposed to a controlled environment doesn't sound useful to me. And it's unnecessary for giant robot scenes that utilize miniature buildings. Normal scenes HAVE to use live sets, but giant scenes don't, so I'd think Toei would only do it if they had to, given the factors above.

Can someone knowledgeable on this help me understand?

The advantage is probably the use of natural lighting to give it a more realistic feel to it. Anyway, such outdoor shoots (still located within the studio premise itself) are performed on a stage/platform, so there is no need to do digital work on the environment to edit out grass etc.

As long as they don't do anything outside of a bird's eye perspective.

The images posted above don't give the impression that they could. But hey, I can easily be wrong.

The image you shown is one that is clearly filmed inside the studio. The buildings in the background that are just pictures/paintings on the sky backdrop is a dead giveaway.
