Super Hero Taisen Z

The first SHT could be passable as all it really did was make a really terrible movie that was boring visually, audibly and in flavour. I was quite happy to joke on the HJU podcast about how every single scene is just awful and the characters had little resemblance to their usual selves...

BUT...

To completely **** over a huge fan favourite character who has been famous for the role for the past 30 years is completely unforgivable. This goes beyond just being a bad film that people can just forget, they're literally ruining legacies.

I guess the job as Com's replacement is too stressful for Retsu, and that leads him to make decisions as bad as those of Shirakura and Yonemura.

Why would they care about any "mistakes"? The movie performed well, and keeping its staff around untouched was proof that the criticism really didn't bother Toei's higher ups.

Regardless of the performance, sometimes Toei staffers seem more receptive to fan criticism and feedback, even if they wouldn't admit it. And why shouldn't they try to make it better, anyway? Do they think SHT was "flawless"?
Yonemura and Shirakura have different issues, but Kaneda in particular annoys me because i sense a laziness behind his directing. It feels like he's tired but refuses to let go of his paychecks.

Btw, i really doubt this one will do as well as the first. Otherwise i'd be very surprised.

Keeping the exact same staff around, in spite of the huge negativity of the criticism given to the first SHT, even in Japan, suggested pretty strongly that they were ignoring the criticism this time. I guess from Toei's point of view, the fans were just complaining about irrelevant matters which didn't bother most of the audience.

I'd be surprised to see this movie match the first one's box office too, I think I've talked about this before. I don't think Gavan's addition will give it any significant push, and the Rider side of the cast seems really small considering how Rider is the toku franchise with by far the biggest box office numbers out of the three in this movie (I mean, it seems like we're only getting Wizard's cast, with the voice-only Fourze and every suit-only Rider only appearing for group battle scenes...).

There's also the gimmick not being new, but I'm not sure Kamen Rider x Super Sentai was ever that big of a gimmick. SHT wasn't the first Rider x Sentai crossover and the Decade x Shinkenger crossover didn't seem to do anything special on tv compared to the standard Decade episode. The whole "all heroes" aspect was likely what helped the first movie's numbers (and this movie seems to have less of that too).

Ok... So I'm hearing a lot of complains on the Metal Heroes front and a bit on the Kamen Rider side, which leads me to wonder... Was the Super Sentai franchise relevant in any way in this film?

Considering I haven't heard a damn thing about it, seems not.

So, Kamen Riders? Pretty much just guys in suits or being blamed for **** again.

Metal Heroes? Turned into Space Hitler. **** you.

Super Sentai? DOESN'T EVEN FACTOR.

Such a great crossover movie.

I'd like to know Ohba's thoughts on what they did to his character. I imagine that would be very interesting to hear.

I'm writing my own little version of this trying to fix the most glaring of stupid things. With the biggest complaint we have so far, would you think it better if Retsu's superiors (I imagine he must still have some) order earth's destruction and he delays said destruction as much as possible?
