Street Fighter Legacy was written and directed by Joey Ansah, the main dude who fought with Matt Damon in the hotel in The Bourne Ultimatum, and stars Jon Foo (of Tom Yum Goong and Tekken) as Ryu and Christian Howard as Ken. Street Fighter: Beginning's End was a 100% unfunded independent production that was made by Shaun Charney and Brandon Huor. I doubt there was any deliberation about the release dates; my guess is that Shaun and Brandon were trying to get Beginning's End out by the time Legacy was released.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed with Legacy, considering how much hype and time was behind the project. It looked gorgeous, the effects, costumes, and music were right, and both leads are obviously very capable screen fighters, but it was sooooooo short, and what was with all the slow motion? Slo-mo is supposed to be used to add style and emphasis to a fight, not to be the fight itself. If it had been shot at normal speed the whole video would have been about a minute long. Akuma's presence was also completely unnecessary, not to mention the fact that it ended with the same old boring stalemate that we've seen a hundred thousand times. Just not at all what I was expecting.
Beginning's End, while not having the greatest costumes or effects or leads that are 100% right for the roles, at least made no qualms about what it was, and shot the action competently, which is pretty much the most prominent feature of both videos.
