Square can't leave well enough alone

So some of you might now know but Square bought Taito recently. I had heard they were going to make a new Lufia/Estopolis game, but instead they are remaking Lufia 2 for the DS.

Screen shots and such. I believe square should focus on making New games. I would be fine if this Lufia 2 remake was a port like CT was, but it's not. I also think the changes they are making are for the worse. Making it an action rpg, it seems to have a battle system similar to magna carta 2, and maxim's new look is awful.

This is typical of them. They dont want to build up a competing franchise. They only want to continue and put money into their own child. All these acquired games like Lufia and Dragon Quest are just the bastard step-children that get neglected. Sure the remakes are NICE and all but I do want more in the series and not just whatever-whatever.

And dont cite to me DQ9.. =_= there is no DQ9... unless it comes to consoles. NONE!

From what I understand, they're doing just fine with new games. They currently have NIER, the FFXIII Trillogy (XIII, VS XIII and Agito XIII) FFXIV, a new Front Mission game, DQ10, and a new Kingdom Hearts game. That's a pretty busy lineup for new titles right there

Fact is, remakes cost less (why pay for writers when it was already dine 15 years ago) and sell nicely due to fact that the new generation of gamers never got a chance to experience the originals. As a Lufia fan, I'll be picking this up. New system or not, anything that square changes, they typically leave the story unaltered for the most part aside from anything that slipped through the original release. Thus, the game will still have a great story. That's more important to me than the new battle system.

Oh boy... Another FF game with a bunch of side games. Yeah that's all we need. The only one of those you mentioned I care at all knowing more about is NIER. The new FM game is nothing more than a shooter. They took the great SRPGness out of FM and made it just another generic shooter.

Kingdom hearts never interested me. The first game had horrid cameras. And the rest just were meh IMO. DQ10 I know nothing about, so I need to see more of it before I can really comment.

About this Lufia 2 remake. My point isn't that they are doing all these changes, though I see no point in them, my point is that instead of remaking Lufia 2... Why not make a REAL Lufia 3.

As much as I like the DS, I agree some what with you here. DQ9 should have been PS3 or 360 or wii.

Square should put some of that effort in salvaging a franchise of theirs that really needs it: Secret of Mana. And maybe figure out some way to give us a third game in the Chrono Trigger series.

The point behind listing the games, is that they ARE focusing on new games. It may not be the games you want, but they are focusing on new games.

Technically, Square Enix acquired Taito back in 2005 (Eidos is the company they just recently acquired) In the last 4 years there's been no talk at all about a new addition to the Lufia series. Now out of nowhere a new Remake comes? Maybe they're just testing the waters to see if there's still interest in continuing the IP. It would be a little hard to officially continue the original series though. I mean what would you be this time? The grandson of Maximilian... the Sinistrels Rise... AGAIN!!!

I agree. About SoM they need to go back to it's roots. Other than the remake of The original game on GBA, the rest since SD3 have been pure crap.

I love Chrono Trigger, but I hated Chrono Cross. If they do a third in that series, I hope it's done CT style.
