[Anime] Spring Anime Season 2014

I've already started Mekakucity Actors, being a kinda fan of the Vocaloid song series it's based off of. I've only seen two of the three episodes out, but I was genuinely surprised with how they handled it, not knowing that Shaft was in charge. I was expecting to have livelier visuals at first, but I really got caught off guard the first few minutes of the show.
Not sure why the list picked a poster that doesn't even have the main character on it.

I'm thinking of picking up either Black Bullet or M3.No Game No Life looks interesting, however.

Well put it this way, I stopped watching Break Blade halfway through episode 3 because it was boring me to death, but I'm still watching "Knights" and "Captain". Captain Earth is pretty much a straight up "our protagonist is the chosen one and only he can pilot this giant mecha to save us from invading aliens" show. Knights of Sidonia has a bit more world building to it, although it has this habit of throwing in ideas and then not following them through. For example the first episode mentions that the spaceship they're on isn't capable of producing any more food so they're having to make their supplies last as long as possible...except in episode three when there's a festival going on and there are food stalls all over the place. *facepalm*

The people in Knights of Sidonia only eat 1x a week I think and "photosynthesize" like plants, except for the main character. Or maybe the 1x a year festival is cause for bringing out the food works!

Yeah that's pretty much what they've said. It seems a bit strange to me that they'd lose the ability to grow food (we'll ignore for a moment that there seems to be plenty of aquatic life doing just fine inside their ocean-sized water tank) and decide that genetically engineering people to be able to photosynthesise was a better route than just rebuilding whatever tech had been damaged/destroyed. Granted, they've had enough supplies to last for 400+ years (sooo many preservatives in their food...), but it's gotta run out eventually. But more than that, between drastically reducing their need to eat and introducing a third gender, they're making quite fundamental changes to the human condition and yet this apparently has no effect.

It's very interesting, but these ideas are apparently important enough to constantly mention but not important enough to explore at all. I only find it frustrating because the show's doing good enough at getting me invested that I'd like to know. It's odd world-building.

Tried watching hero bank and I just couldn't get into it.

It just feels like a poor man's Tiger and Bunny.

tried to watch Disc Avengers...idk, just couldn't.
Sidonia's still got me hooked though, dont' really get the talking bear with the wisk hand, but hey, it's a talking bear chef!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's been wondering what the deal is with that.

I'm considering dropping Chaika The Coffin Princess. It's an OK show, but I never feel the need to watch it each week like I do with the other series I'm watching :hmm:

so Sidonia is getting more into the story, which...is starting to confuse me, Captain Earth is adding more people all of a sudden and mechs.

For anyone that saw Broken Blade, what were the differences between the TV and the OVA Break Blade anyways? saw 2 episodes, nothing really different and stopped there.

I've been watching that show, maybe I can help. What's confusing you?

I'm in the same boat as you - haven't seen the original version and watched two episodes of the new. My understanding is that they basically take pairs of episodes and edit them together into hour long versions, and there was meant to be bits of new animation here and there to pad it back out make it worth watching for people who'd seen the original.

Mainly, What happened to the girl? was she infected by the Gauna or something, i thought she died?
Also, did that white hair dude who hates Tanikaze ever get found out that he only commanded Tani to explode his charge? ...I think I missed an episode or two :/

Just watched, apparently the last episode of Sidonia, Freaking awesome! Loved the Gardes fights, mushy stuff was okay, Ren, one of the siblings, coming thru out of nowhere to scare tanikaze and Izana? was hilarious...Didn't think they'd finish it though.

She did, and in the next battle a Gauna appeared that seemed to have modeled its' form after her gardes (previous Gauna had copied the faces of KIA pilots). IIRC at one stage in the battle it appeared in, it got damaged where the cockpit of an actual gardes would be, and out popped a little pilot-shaped piece of gauna. Nagate scooped it up in a sample jar and brought it back. Since then they've been observing it and it's slowly become more and more human. But it's just copying the dead girl.

No they seemingly just dropped that one. White-haired dude seemingly got really traumatised when the gauna-gardes appeared taunting him with his dead teammate's voice, and apparently the only reason the Captain got the eldars to allow Nagate to be an active pilot was on the condition that he has to fight every time (because they're convinced that his "grandfather" is a legendary hero who the council hate, and Nagate is probably his clone which means that he could potentially be just as big of a thorn in their side, so they insist that he fights every time because the survival rate for pilots is really low and he'll likely die before he becomes a threat). So Nagate can't get taken off the active roster as punishment. As for why he didn't tell anyone or why nobody bothered to his comm logs, I dunno, I think we're meant to just presume that white-haired guy is from a rich and powerful family so it all got suppressed or something.

Me neither, but it's coming back in the Autumn season so we've only a few months to wait. It seems to be getting increasingly common now for shows to be presented as two shorter seasons rather than a single longer one. I guess the animation companies just like having that extra time to work on the second half. Either way, I'd just consider this week's episode to be a mid-season finale in all but name.
