Speed Racer [2008]

I just finished watching the movie and WOW!

DID I JUST SAW SPEED RACER's LA?

I am so speechless! I mean, look at the AWESOME GRAPHICS

and the actors really got the characters of the old anime show.

MAN! THE MOVIE RRRoocckkSSS!!!!

Just saw it a second time with Sam Oplinger who also came out with a lot of Speed Racer love.

Still damn genius a second time around and once it was in question, but now there is no question that SR is the better movie over Iron Man. Iron Man was great and just about perfect, but it was solid and straight forward.

The film making and storytelling in SR was far more daring, innovative and took chances that it nailed the dismount on. And what's more.......... it evoked sincere emotional responses. Got a bit misty a couple times, cuz I'm a pretty big sucker for well done father-son moments and the trial of a boy becoming a man in his fathers eyes. Iron Man was solid and safe, Speed Racer took the turns and dazzling speeds, spinning about and all the while in full control of its narrative that would often times jump forward and backward in time, but not leave you confused.

The fight scenes are for the martial artist's eye. To others it would look like out of control random chaos, but to the experienced eye, every shot, flip, move, blast and twist was so well thought out, executed, and shot that it keeps your mind thinking during the fights.

Again..... the marketing for this is the true tragedy. On top of that, it's a concept nobody really wants to see in the first place. So for all the reward that this movie fully deserves..... everything about it except for the movie itself pretty much makes it that nobody's going to see it and snobby critics just will not get it.

I hope the Warchowski Bros play it safer next movie, cuz they deserve a big paycheck and reward for the talent they've got under their hood.

Seeing Speed Racer is like being taken to another planet where you get to witness a new and dazzling civilization, and then being brought back to Earth with no proof of it. Sure you can harp on and on about the things you saw, but nobody's going to believe you. Thing is........... who cares?! You got to see another fucking planet and dazzling civilization and....... you know you can go back to where nobody else will travel and still enjoy it. ;)

Once I get my new car, I will be seeing it a third time on the IMAX.

It bombed because of a combination of it being a concep that no mass audience would actively want to see on top of some of the worst promotions I've ever seen for a movie.

I'm open minded and I thought the trailers looked pretty abismal. Only reason why use HJU'ers would go is cuz with KR and PR we're the kinda folk that venture were angels fear to tread to find the great things in the world.

I don't have many friend that also would've found the movie pretty awesome, but other than my word there's nothing that would make a regular person walk out and watch it.

Sadley most of my friends say they might give it a chance on DVD, which for me is like hearing that someone would rather watch the Niagra Falls on video tape.

Just saw it tonight, it was a little boring at first and because of the way they did the flash backs, it made it a little bit confusing...other then that, I liked it about the only problem I had with this movie was the little kid and his fucking monkey. Seriously, half of the movie was focused on those two, getting into mischive anyway they can. Oh yeah, that and the movie was a tad bit predicable.
