Speed Racer [2008]

Over here in the UK, it's mainly had good reviews so far for the most part which is pretty interesting.

wuwu, it's a shame that those people in the cinema acted like total fuckwits especially as they knew there were kids in there. I hope they got caught by the staff and booted out for what they did in there.

So I saw Speed Racer. I have to admit (and by doing so, back up the claims in this thread) that the movie wasnt that bad. In fact, it was pretty entertaining. Like others have said, the first 20-30 minutes are the hardest to get through. What saves the movie is really just the actors.

It's a bit stiff in the introduction but everything loosens up and it all feels natural after a while. I can't get over the fact that theres more than one occassion where it felt like I was watching a glorified Direct-to-Dvd Jetix Movie. Those CGI cars are incredibly cartoony and are children show standard in their quality.

But the plot has heart, I suppose you could say. There are some pretty intense moments during the races as well.

It wasnt a bad movie at all. In fact, if you're going to do a speed racer movie, I cant imagine it being done any other way than what the Watchowski's have done here. The show was so ridiculous; The plot, the super-f-zero-special effects races, and the characters, are all oozing of "Speed Racer" in a real life spectrum.

Cant say the movie was very funny though. The ill-attempts at humor fall pretty flat. But it was still incredibly entertaining.

I dont know if I would go see this one in theaters but when it comes out on DvD, it would be worth a rental at least.

Ok, when I heard about this at first, I had no intentions on seeing this movie. But after seeing what the critics gave it, I decided to go see it. This movie was really worth the money I spent. I ejoyed it alot.

Everybody at Henshin Justice should go see this.

I absolutely fucking loved it. I've a feeling it's going to get bashed by critics, but for people like us.... it's a goddamn love letter.

Oh its been bashed already. Again, I was very surprised by it. I dont think the movie is for everyone but for the Toku junkies like us, it will probably be very enjoyable and easier to love.

Have to say the races were very exciting towards the end, especially.

Okay... I've been sickened by this movie since I heard about it and then after I seen the trailer. I know folk here would expect me to like this movie, but everything I'd seen about it spoke the contrary to me. I thought it looked pretty horrendous.

But I was still strangely drawn to it. I wanted to see the failure for myself.

Expecting the worst I was reminded................ The Warchowski Brothers are fucking geniuses.

If you have a passing care for Speed Racer, enjoy unfettered creativity, and wanna see some action unlike anything you've ever seen before....... do it up on the IMAX.

This is sooooooooooo not for everyone. But for those that it is for, this movie is actually brilliant. They know what they were doing, knew what they wanted, and damn what anyone else thinks they executed it with the speed and energetic ferocity of Bruce Lee wielding psychedelic nunchuks.

Made my spirits soar, my fists clinch and my heart race.

If you hate Speed Racer, the idea of Speed Racer or super anime... avoid at all costs.

You're so right about that. I cant agree more.

I mean, during that last race, when Speed is remembering why he races, all thats been said, you start getting into that mood. It sets you up for the climactic finisher. When Speed is approaching the finish line and two racers are trying to take him out, you want to be on the edge of your seat. Everyone is screaming as Speed kicks ass and takes names and it makes you want to scream and cheer too.

Honestly, this is the best cast movie right up there with Iron Man. Every single part was cast perfectly. It had the best blend of action, drama, and hilarity. I didnt honestly find any part of the movie hard to watch, though I think I'm colorblind now...

Anyway did anyone catch the Gatchaman reference?

What Gatchaman reference?

You're so right about that. I cant agree more.

I know what you mean. That finale had my heart fluttering pretty hard.

I will try and see it again before it's gone from the IMAX...

The helmet that Taejo Togokhan wears, when the visor is pulled down, looks just like the helmet from Gatchaman. While this may not be a reference, it sure feels like one to me...
