Sony Tries to be Like Nintendo.... and Fails.

Garren, the signs are there. The system is faltering showing signs of death within 18 months to two years. The fact that every company is abandoning the UMD format is a BAD SIGN for the system.

Watch MS, they were rumored to be developing their own portable system at one point if that bears out or if they reach an agreement with Nintendo to put SOME MS related content on the DS, then the PSP is dead.

Well the DS had web surfind in Japan for a while I believe, but it used the cell phone network and due to differences in formats and stuff it wasn't compatible with the american network.

Nintendo just takes the safety of kids to heart. Beside I'd rather not be subjected to every dick and tom swearing at me through my DS -.-

In certain games, like Diddy Kong Racing and stuff, you can get random match ups though. the GTS in Pokémon doesn't require friend codes. Heck you can use it and the mails to send in your FC to random people if you want hehehe.

1. Oh, so they are getting Internet? Yeah, I cant wait to see this. How long did it take them? How many years has it been out?

4. The fact that you have to trade a friend code to even play against someone, not to mention you have to hope that the friends you have on your list are on to play online, weaken Nintendo's online strategy. Nintendo has always has this retarded hate for Online gaming for some reason. They say Online isnt going anywhere during the N64, then they claim they support online for the Cube but dont provide any online titles (besides like PSO). You know if I were them, the first thing I would have done is make Wii Sports an online title. That would have made the app even more killer to have. But no, no. I hate whoever is making decisions at that company because they're killing themselves

5. Well, that's fine for you. I don't care about what the Anime Community plays. They are not people I look to for approval.

DS has done some things right. I like the Mic. I like the stylus and the touch screen stuff. However, I absolutely hate the lack of an A-stick on certain games. Oh god... I can only imagine how Metroid or Kart plays. Ugh.

The way you keep harping on friend codes, means you really don't know much about the way the system plays online period. Not every game requres you have a friend code to play online. There is only 1 that I can name off the top of my head. Animal Crossing. That game REQURIES you to have a friend code to be able to play online. Most, if not all, other games do not require a friend code to be able to play online.
Regarding the DS browser. The system is a GAMING machine first and formost. Just like the net browser for the Wii, it is NOT ment to replace browsing the net via a computer. It's there for you to be able to go online and view websites. Why did it take so long for the browser to be released though? Well the WHOLE thing had to be translated, and then made to work w/ the way the net is set up in North America, which is slightly different than how it works in Japan. That takes time. Not to mention that it was probably awhile before the decision was made to even release the browser for the N. America market.

As far as online gaming is conserned. During the N64 days, online gaming was in it's infancy. And was STILL in it's infancy in the GameCube days. Online gaming only really became a viable and profitable right around when the XBox came out with Live. Even the online capibilities for the PS2 were laughable when they first made that available. It took XBox to really figure out a way that both worked and made money. And leave it to Microsoft to figure out how to do that best.

Nintendo's stance has always been to not jump into the online gaming market until it was well established and was profitable. Now it is. Previously it wasnt. Simple as that.

Plus Sony Online is a joke. Everyone who uses it will say so. Even Live had it's bugs until the 360 came out. now I'll agree the 360 is online gaming "so easy an HJU board member could use it" but that MS niche. Nintendo thankfully never jumped on a lot of bandwagons and takes a lot of flak for being a GAMING machine, heck PS3 has to call itself a computer to warrent all it's crap. but a DVD player, online gaming & web browsing are a few things that Nintendo has either avoided all together or just caved under consumer demand. Garrens arguements are much like the one's of the Mid 90's. If you like the PSP thats fine, even I thought it had some good games. But don't stand here and tell us how Blast Processing is gonna destroy the competition AFTER it's become apparent that it's all A) marketing bull & B) just not true.

Those pictures remind me of this one... only not intentionally funny...

Pretty much everything said here is true. I DO remember something back in the SNES days that was online. but it only let like 1 game go online.
