Sometimes I F*%K'IN HATE Computers!!

Well I woke up this morning and the whole thing went belly up again. And I'm also getting the goddamn system crashes again.

Granted my PC probably sucks ass...but trying to set up a wireless network shouldn't **** up my PC.

It's still down right now (I'm on my pop's laptop), and I'll probably take it into work to see what our PC tech guys can figure out.

God damn PC's

I'm still amazed your system died installing a home network. My comptuer is 9 years old and even that didn't happen to mine....

It could be that you will need to contact Comcast and register your router's MAC address with them before you can get the network to run properly. That's how Charter is and unfortunately (for us) a wireless router will not run properly through Charter is it's not registered. Contact Comcast and find out if that is the case. If it's not then let me know and I'll get the hubby to help you out, after all that is part of his job.

If they are using the MAC address, he can put the MAC of his PC into the router and clone it on the router's WAN interface without contacting his ISP.

A more probable problem I would look at would be that his PC is set to use DHCP for his IP & DNS and also that his router is acting as DHCP server and providing his PC both. I'd also turn off the XP firewall and make sure that the Cat5 from the modem is going in the WAN port of the router.

Also MS has an update dealing with an issue on XPSP2 machines and getting the 'Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error', details can be read here

Not if the company is like Charter where you have to register it with them. Trust me, we went through this with Charter ourselves and the only way we were able to use our router was to register the MAC address with them.

Thanks for the info. unfortunatly in order to get the update, I have to have net access. So I'm going to see if it works downloading the update to my pop's PC, and taking it over to my PC.

After I can get this crap taken care of, I can start trying to figure out my damn network.
