FF16 Something that bothers me in the final game

Final Fantasy XVI (2023): Clive Rosfield is drawn into a brutal war fueled by magical Dominants and their summoned Eikons. It leans fully into cinematic, action-focused combat with a darker medieval tone. AKA Final Fantasy 16, FF16, FFXVI

Demo of Final Fantasy XVI. Joshua, a great character who tragically dies, was available for us to play as. But what's this? In the remaining levels, we cannot take on his role! Are you serious? We were all excited for more Joshua action after the demo, but there was almost none. What a major disappointment! They seem to be playing with our emotions when they give us a taste of something wonderful before taking it away. Dude, I'm really frustrated. By allowing us to play as Joshua, they had the ideal opportunity to improve the game even further, but they squandered it. There are no Party members or other characters than Clive who can be played. They said we wont have DLC so no extension of playing as Joshua.

It was a blast using Joshua in the Final Fantasy XVI demo! His charismatic personality and enjoyable to utilize skills made him a compelling character. It's a real shame we can't play as him throughout the duration of the game. I'm quite disappointed and annoyed since I was eagerly anticipating more Joshua action. It seems like a lost chance to develop his character to the fullest.

While I appreciate the narrative direction and impact of Joshua's death in Final Fantasy XVI, I can't help but feel a sense of loss and disappointment that we can't continue playing as him. His character had so much potential and playing as him in the demo left me wanting more. It's like a mix of admiration for his role in shaping the story and a desire for a more substantial experience with Joshua throughout the game. Zack also died in VII but we get to play as him in flashbacks.

Joshua's fate in Final Fantasy XVI shares similarities with the "fridged woman" trope, which refers to the unfortunate pattern of female characters being killed off or harmed solely to provide emotional motivation for male protagonists. A prime example of this trope is Aerith from Final Fantasy VII. Aerith's shocking death served as a catalyst for Cloud's journey and had a profound impact on players. Similarly, Joshua's tragic demise propels Clive's quest for revenge in Final Fantasy XVI. The only difference is Joshua is a man and the older brother of Clive.

Both characters' deaths evoke strong emotions and contribute to the overall narrative, but they also raise concerns about relying on the sacrifice of female or marginalized characters to further male-driven storylines. It's important for storytellers to explore alternative ways of character development and plot progression that avoid perpetuating this trope and promote more diverse and empowering narratives.

You're absolutely right, at least Final Fantasy XVI avoids falling into the "fridged woman" trope with the character of Jill. We got Fridged brother instead... LOL

Yeah we could have gotten something worst. Clive Rosfield's journey in Final Fantasy XVI is emotionally gripping, especially witnessing his brother Joshua's tragic death at a young age. It's heart-wrenching to see Clive's mental health being questioned throughout the story. The moments where the hooded figure recognizes Clive and Jill, confirming Joshua's identity, are powerful and haunting. It's a rollercoaster of emotions. It moves the story forward.

Final Fantasy XVI's decision to limit our ability to play as Joshua beyond the demo is a major letdown. I was genuinely excited about the possibilities of his character development and gameplay mechanics. It's disappointing to see such potential squandered. I can't help but feel a tinge of anger and frustration towards the developers for teasing us with Joshua's abilities and then taking them away. At least we get to play as Aerith for a long time before she died.

My heart sank when I realized I couldn't continue playing as Joshua in Final Fantasy XVI. I was genuinely excited to delve deeper into his character after the demo, but it feels like they've taken away something special from us. It's frustrating, to say the least.
