Something I noticed about MagiShine vs KaiShine

I was watching it and it hit me

In .hack, if you drop something into a Magic Spring, a spirit will come out and ask you "What did you drop? A Golden Axe or a Silver Axe?" The Magiranger part said "Which did you drop? Actually, you're incorrect. That particular scene is actually a reference to an old Japanese folk tale, which many things (including .hack apparently) have used in various forms.

A few more examples of its use can be found in Silent Hill 3 (Heather can toss her lead pipe into a pool and receive silver and gold pipes as a reward. It was also used in the SNES game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. By tossing a boomerang or shield into a special fairy fountain (and later on, a tempered sword and arrows), you could gain upgraded versions of the items.

What is the full legend exactly? I heard of it but I never got a full run down of the story... you get a reward for being truthfull or something?

I don't remember many specifics, but what I do recall is this.

A young man happened upon a well (or perhaps a pond or other body of water) and dropped something in that he owned. A fairy appeared (or some other, similar spirit) and presented a number of items that had been dropped in the past, including his possession. She asked him which of the items belonged to him. Being an honest man, he chose only the item that he had dropped. To reward him for his honesty, the fairy gave not only that item back to him, but two extras. One silver, the other gold.

Now, meanwhile, another man had seen the whole thing go on. Excited, he waited until the first man left, and then ran over to the well (or pond, etc), and dropped something of his in. The fairy appeared as it had before, and asked which of the items belonged to him. He was greedy, and said that they all were his, hoping that he would be able to get gold and silver copies like the other man had. But the fairy knew that he had told a lie. For his dishonesty, he got nothing in return.

So basically it's a fable with a moral that says honesty may reward you, but dishonesty never will.

Magiranger is indeed full of legends and heroic adventures. Apparently, the Magiranger group is a legendary sentai. That makes them so powerful and simply the best.:thumbs:

That was a good story. I like how it was worked into Magiranger. More shows should work morals like that in.
