The movie is based off of Ben Mezrich's Bringing Down the House. You are correct that it is based off of this book, for which the events are true. That doesn't mean the movie will be entirely to rote about the book.

The protagonist - Ben Campbell plays a Chinese person, spec. Taiwanese

They are card-counting, which isn't illegal, but just a system of statistics and probability. It probably won't fly anymore because of changes in casino standards and regulations now. - Random Card Shuffling.

I wouldn't boycott the movie, I'd blame more Chinese people for not trying out for the role instead.
