So...how 'bout that health care?

38/50 states dont agree with it I heard. It'll probably be even more chaotic later on.
Also the fact that the health care is making you buy it, which is against the constitution or something.
Yea, would have remembered more if this thread was made about 2 days ago XD

You just have to choose some healthcare. Private healthcare isn't going away. If you're poor, it gets subsidized. There is no public option.

Essentially, it's like auto insurance is now.

You know this might sound good, but this is just the government dictating to us what we can and can not do. If I am wrong then please some one prove me wrong. I want to be wrong here. The government should not be telling us what we can or can't do with our health. This kind of thing is something the citizens of this country should be voting on if anything.

The thing is, if people don't take care of themselves, the government is frequently expected to soak up the costs. Given that given, I think it's unquestionably in the republic's best interests to require people to engage in preventive care.

The fact is, if you don't take care of yourself, it's not just your problem. You'll probably end up draining resources from Medicare/Medicaid. So if the government helps people buy insurance that keeps them from falling into horrible shape when they're older, it's a long-term savings for taxpayers.

Are they helping people get it, or just saying get it or else? I mean they arn't paying for my insurance now, and what I have read doesn't say that is changing.

You did. Did the President and Congress win their seats by mortal combat or did I miss something? That's how this system of government works. They are your elected officials. Much like some disagreed with the war, but all remained committed.

In the end, premiums rise 20% each year, those of us with insurance pay for those without insurance to get catastrophic care instead the far cheaper preventative care anyways, and those with insurance who actually need it are denied claims due to 'existing conditions'. So here we are.

Are they helping people get it, or just saying get it or else? I mean they arn't paying for my insurance now, and what I have read doesn't say that is changing.

Both. You fall below the clip, they subsidize it. Above, they assume you should have it anyways, so you get nothing.

Like I said, the NY Times link I posted above will explain it completely.

Actually, it's turning out that those figures miiiiight have been juuuust a bit inflated by the right-wing.

... Okay, maybe more than just a little.

Also the fact that the health care is making you buy it, which is against the constitution or something.

Not really. Federal law requires you to buy car insurance if you own a car, so it's kind of the same principal here.

Federal trumps state law in these kinds of situations.

The state DAs trying to sue over the bill are just trying to look all big and important to the voters, even though they know they don't have a raindrop's chance in Hell of actually winning.

But if you don't have it and they assume you do and they find out you don't... They are going to fine you?

Yep. As I posted before.

Starting in 2014, most Americans will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty.
The penalty will be phased in, starting at $95 or 1 percent of income in 2014, whichever is higher, and rising to $695 or 2.5 percent of income in 2016. But families would not pay more than $2,085.

American Indians don’t have to buy insurance. Those with religious objections or a financial hardship can also avoid the requirement. And if you would pay more than 8 percent of your income for the cheapest available plan, you will not be penalized for failing to buy coverage.

Those who are exempt, or under 30, can buy a policy that only pays for catastrophic medical costs. It must allow for three primary care visits a year as well.

Guessing that would depend on your total earned income?

Though...I can imagine that would be such a hassle for those whole fall just above whatever that standard is.
