Shout! Factory Obtains Saban License- Power Rangers Seasons on DVD!

Since I submitted my e-mail address to Shout! Factory for pre-order information, I learned a few more things about the legacy set.

The message says that there will be 767 episodes in the set. It'll most likely have the two holiday specials that Samurai and Super Samurai each have, the two that Megaforce will have, and "Clash of the Red Rangers" along with the 760 main episodes from Mighty Morphin up to Megaforce.

It also says that there are six DVDs with bonus content, but one is exclusive to the set. The MMPR set has two, the sets that cover Zeo through Lost Galaxy and Lightspeed Rescue to DinoThunder each have one, so the set covering S.P.D. to R.P.M. will most likely have one bonus disc. The bonus disc exclusive to the legacy set will most likely cover material from Samurai, Super Samurai, and Megaforce. So perhaps I'll most likely have to learn just what the exclusive bonus material is to help me decide if this is something I actually want.

The booklet that comes with the legacy set will have 100 pages total. I still wonder if it's a conglomerate of the booklets that come with the mega sets. Previous information also said that one of the things it'll have is trivia. That's something that the booklets from the MMPR set and seasons 4-7 set don't have.

Also in the e-mail is this link which has a countdown clock counting down to when pre-orders go live.

Also, just in case anyone here might still be interested in getting the legacy set, just keep in mind that if you live in California, Florida, Indiana, or Kentucky, you'll be charged sales tax.

The artwork for the individual sets that will be in the seasons 8-12 set has been revealed.

I mentioned this earlier even though it's not Saban's territory, but the second and final volume for Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad just might see the light of day after all.

Now BeetleBorgs and VR Troopers may not ever get complete on DVD, but look what will in one fell swoop.

A few things that will be on the bonus disc from the legacy set have been revealed. I'll warn you though, that a good number of you might be disappointed, especially if you're not getting the legacy set.

So without further ado:
-music from the show, with interviews by Ron Wasserman
-writer featurette featuring Tony Oliver, Douglas Sloan, Jackie Marchand, and Greg Aronowitz
-villain actor & villain voice actor featurette, with interviews by Barbara Goodson, Robert Axelrod, Kerrigan Mahan, Amy Rolle, Jennifer L. Yen, and Vernon Wells. (Carol Hoyt might be involved as well.)
-anniversary panel from the 2012 San Diego Comic Con International
-Green Ranger kata video that was released in 1994

Here's the link to the video so you can see for yourself. You can just stop at 1:48.

Now even though I'm getting this set, I was hoping that those not buying it could see most of these things on the two multi-season sets that will be coming out. Particularly the Green Ranger kata video, since the White Ranger kata video is a special feature on the MMPR complete series set. I was hoping that the Green Ranger kata could be on the seasons 8-12 set, since it will include DinoThunder, and Tommy was a regular in that season.

I was also hoping that voice actors would get some special feature love, but for right now, it seems like only the villain voice actors will be getting it. Hopefully the ones who voiced good guys will be involved in some special features. In fact, since Shout! Factory had a special feature in the earlier complete series sets for Transformers and G.I. Joe that was a roundtable discussion of the voice actors, I was hoping one of the PR sets would get that exact same feature.

More news on stuff exclusive to the legacy set:
-Interviews with the Samurai/Super Samurai cast; Alex Heartman and Erika Fong so far
-Interviews with the Megaforce/Super Megaforce cast; Azim Rizk and Christina Masterson so far
-feature on the monsters, featuring monster wrangler Ivory Stanton

Just the first two minutes or so of the video.

Also, Brian tweeted a while back that the discs for the seasons 8-12 set have been sent to the plant to be finalized. All that's left for them to work on are the discs for seasons 13 through 17, and the legacy set's bonus disc.

Members of the Power Force have been getting their seasons 8-12 sets around this time. Fury Diamond has started a review on it, and it's currently a work in progress as I post about it.

I'm glad to see that the episodes are ordered well. Especially in Ninja Storm, where one of them was aired out of order since it had to be reshot.

The booklet also has profiles like the ones from the two previous sets. We also learn what the "A" in Mr. A. Collins' name stands for after all this time.

Apparently there are interviews that involve cast members from post-PRDT seasons. Not sure why, but I'm not complaining.

A full list of the special features is also mentioned, and some of them have been carried over from Disney's Ninja Storm and DinoThunder DVDs.

It looks like at least one edited PRTF episode is on the set. I'm hoping there's at least one unedited episode there. Other than that, I'm a bit disappointed that the seamless version of "Trakeena's Revenge" didn't make it as a special feature. Other than that, I think I ought to be satisfied with this set for the most part when I get it (or even the legacy set).

Anyway, you can read about it here.

In case anyone might care, VR Troopers season 2-volume 2 is back on. However, it's now a Shout! Select title. It'll be out next year on January 14th, exclusively at Shout! Factory's site.

Some of you might have even read Fury Diamond's blog about the PR seasons 8-12 set. If you have, then you'd know that it has been confirmed that there are no pre-9/11 versions of episodes on it. Brian Ward of Shout! Factory made a statement today at Rangerboard and Rangercrew on the matter:

Here's the thing. I'm gutted.

I've been reluctant to say anything about Time Force until I absolutely had to, which means when the DVDs shipped to the plant. Even then, I didn't know what to say. Frankly, it comes down to this. You will never know just how hard I tried to get this right. This isn't Saban's fault. They helped me out immeasurably in the search for good pre-9/11 masters. The fans aren't to blame because several of them provided me with their personal recordings. But they just. didn't. work. I personally edited five different personal collections worth of video with legit masters, did encode tests and not one of them held up after encoding. I realize that this would have been okay for many of you, but I'm not just making these sets for you guys. Archival bonus features are one thing. But I cannot let the quality of the episodes suffer because of this. Like I said, I'm gutted. And I feel like I've let the fandom down in that regard.

Although it's not a deal-breaker for me, I'd be lying if I said that it isn't a disappointment. I will not hold it against Shout! Factory however, since they said they'd do their best to get the unedited versions, and they unfortunately wasn't able to. Shout! Factory seems to have done a fine job on these sets, and I still look forward to owning them.

WTF is an edited episode doing on a DVD set!!!!!!!!!??????? That is completely unacceptable!!

You can't blame Shout! Factory for that though, because they did try to find unedited versions. I almost want to say I blame Bin Laden who's responsible for the 9/11 attacks, which is the reason these episodes were edited in the first place, but edited episodes of a show pale in comparison to the countless lost lives of innocent people.

One of the ways in which the episodes were edited were that destruction of buildings were taken out, yet in Wild Force, there's at least one scene where a building gets destroyed in a Megazord-monster battle. S.P.D. even had a monster destroying a building, and the latest episode of Megaforce even had a monster blasting buildings. It almost makes you wonder if it was really necessary to edit those Time Force episodes.

Read the fucking post. Brian Ward and Shout Factory tried their hardest, if they didnt include the episodes in the set it is ultimately for the best

With all respect for 9/11 victims, i don`t understand all this destroy of original footage, in Poland, my country, there were some actors, who took German side during II WW, yet not a single film that features them was destroyed
