Should sentai have a male pink ranger?

We should flip this on it's head. Why is there never a female Green?

Greens usually get a lot of comedy/slapstick scenes, and (as KouAidou said in a post somewhere) writers don't like to do that with female characters because it ruins their cutesy idol image

in fact there has been a female green ranger (not counting the Bangai Mele); but she was in an evil team (one of the Hanarangers of Kakuranger was green; there were also an Orange, a Blue, a Purple and a Pink leader)

Tomica Hero Rescue Fire had a female Green ... but then it was the show that ended the Tomica Hero franchise

So a girl can't play a MALE role? This is much worse than a guy wearing a girls colour.

Almost all female Rangers have had the same stock "girl" traits and occupied noticeably different roles from the guys. I'd say the only girls in the history of Sentai to play a male role are Tsuruhime (the first female Ranger to take on the position of leader) and Kaoru (written more or less as Takeru would be, since she was supposed to be a Takeru counterpart)

Here's the original post I was referring to:

The trouble with making a girl main comic relief is that wacky comedy often requires a character to look ugly, undignified, or unpleasant. Most producers don't want to do this to their female characters, whom they ideally want to remain marketable and cute.

(This is, incidentally, why I celebrate characters like Akiko in W. Even if you don't particularly like her for the things she does in the series, her role is one that women rarely get to play in this genre.)

A lot of the more OTT comedy scenes in recent years have tended to go to Green Rangers, so yeah, I can see why Toei wouldn't want to have a female Green

I highly doubt Toei is avoiding putting females in slapstick roles on purpose.

They do it constantly with Kamen Rider. Akiko and Yuki have been in more funny situations than greens in the past decade of Sentai combined.

i dont think that is a good excuse. it is not like they are forced to have slapstick comedy just because it is a Green ranger, so if they really wanted to have a female Green that alone wouldnt stop them.

wait wut i'm being oldquoted in dis thread

Well, as I noted, tendency is not absolute. After all, as kuroi said, we still got Akiko, and Yuuki (though in Yuuki's case I think she tends a little more towards cute even when she's being ridiculous). All it really takes is one daring producer to meet an incredibly talented slapstick actress and change things.

But at the same time, you can't argue the tendency isn't there. Akiko is one out of how many Rider girls? I can't think of a single other one that was willing to make herself look that unpleasant for the sake of comedy.

(Even Hana, who is, by the writing, supposed to be an unpleasant and unattractive woman, is still dressed up in babydoll outfits and mostly ends up playing straightman to the slapstick around her.)

Yuuki isn't quite on the level of, say, GokaiGreen or Go-on Green. She has ditzy moments, but the show wouldn't do anything to make her look really awkward or ungainly. Also a lot of the physical comedy in Sentai is based around someone being hit or pushed around, and they don't like to do that to girls
