Series or Movies

Okay, a trend that I've noticed with anime is that a lot of them tend to make a series and then later make a movie that's supposedly a condensed retelling. Do these things really work? I'm curious because I've never seen them, but I just can't see it. The new Trigun movie, Trigun X is supposed to be, IIRC, the continuation of Trigun, Trigun Maximum. Which so far is 15 volumes. If it is..no way. They couldn't even accurately do Mai-HiMe, which was only 5 volumes in 26 episodes. You also see this alot with Gundam series. First MSG and now Zeta, both retold with 3 movies, which really equates to about 9 episodes. I just don't see how you can retell a 48-50 episode tale in only 270 minutes, but I want everyone else's opinion. Specifically those who have seen the Gundam movies and the series as well.

Well, usually the movie has a few slight differences from the series, sometimes they are re-tellings in an alternate universe, or if one thing was different. I think the Evangelion movies are like that? One was an actual ending, but it included alot of Series' footage.

X 1999 the anime did that with the movie too I believe. Anyway, Trigun X isnt gonna be exactly Maximum, since Maximum WAS actually done already. If anything Trigun X will prolly be an alternate dimension movie starting at the point where Vash gets his remade suit, except this time, ittle be the new Maximum suit.
I dunno how they are gonna make a Trigun Video Game though... Oh well.

Side Note : A Shinigami's duty is the same as a Soul Reaper/Death/Grim Reaper's isnt it?
Yeah, I know it's God of Death, but the basic job is the same ain't it?

I guess it depends from series to series.

I for one am happy with the new Hokuto no Ken movie trilogy that is coming out. It's a retelling of the original series but condensed to the core story and this time the graphics do the manga justice (unlike the original TV series which was graphically speaking far below the manga).

Speaking of Fist of the North Star, I didn't particularly like the original anime movie because of the whole condensed retelling thing. It just felt like a mess and this was before I'd seen the whole series.

Generally the condensed/retelling movies don't work out so well...RahXephon: Pluraltis Concertio didn't do the series justice. It's really hit and miss, but in the long run you're always better off to just watch the original series.

There was a RahXephon movie?

You're missing the point. If they can use words like kido and Zanpakuto, they can use the word Shinigami.
