Sentai vs. Kamen Rider

Filadelfo?

Yours is a name I've not seen around here for a while. Welcome back.

But yeah... mostly, it's because my mind is folding to the need for mature content and not allowing for other stuff. Boukenger's the best Sentai I've seen in a while and finally has a team that's not full of hyper-retards. Still..... I just don't have the drive. I'd prolly be much easier to just watch it on DVD.

I'm all about more dark and serious stuffnjunk.

Older sentais had dark, serious stuffnjunk...without boring the viewers' asses off or becoming complete wrecks like most of the new Kamen Rider shows. :P And I certainly think Showa sentai shows were better than Showa Rider series. For example: I love Kamen Rider Black, but I think Maskman is much better, IMO.

It sucks that sentai's been in such a rut since Gaoranger that it's sort of become the bastard of the tokusatsu genre. It doesn't help that from Gaoranger on has been all that's completely subbed, so that's really all what people have seen.

You felt Gaoranger was pretty good?

I've always been tempted to pick up that series, actually.

And yeah, I've absolutely adored what older Sentai I've seen. DaiRanger being the best of the oldies I've sampled.

Wasn't Blue doin' up Maskman? Is that still being done?

Not good like "Holy cow! This is what sentai's all about!" but I found the half of the series to at least be entertaining, but it became too repetitive midway through for me. I at least understand Toei's viewpoint -- they wanted a lighter entry after the gloomy Timeranger, but...they didn't need to take the genre as far as its gotten with the cartoonish antics.

I think Abaranger did what Gaoranger wanted to do, but better. I think Abaranger's one of the better recent shows, but it gets judged a bit too harshly by its outlandish humor, which can be offputting at first, but there's a good show in there and the cast makes the humor work.

EDIT: Yeah, like Disco said, I wasn't really "praising" Gaoranger, just...whatever, there's my explanation.

Agreed. I found Abaranger to work really well. I thought the cast was great, and I didn't think the humor really detracted from the overall quality that much.

Huh.... yeah, I'm sorry to say, but I don't see myself ever giving Abaranger a fair shake. It's humor put me off waaaaay too much. I did see things that were intriguing, but I don't see myself turning back.

GaoRanger tho... every movie or crossover I've seen them in has been awesome and I love the cast as far as I can tell. Been wanting to give them a go for a while now.

Fast forward up to Abare Killer's arrival and the Mohoro/Asuka storyline. Trust me.
