Sentai Dvds

So I'm guess R2 is the region for most US dvd players?
That is an incorrect guess.

Region 1 covers DVDs and DVD players sold in Canada and the United States. Region 2 covers Japan, Europe, and I believe some parts of the Middle East. That's another way of telling that you may have a pirated DVD instead of a legit copy. If you purchase a legit copy of the DVD in/from Japan, you should not be able to play it in a DVD player that was purchased in Canada or the U.S. UNLESS you have "hacked" the DVD player to be "region-free" (i.e. you've reprogrammed it to remove the lock so that it can play DVDs from other/all regions instead of only ones from a single region). Pirated copies are encoded to be region-free, which means they'll play in any DVD player.

Just a warning about spade_ace though, the KR and Sentai series he sells are just TV Nihon fansubbed versions that you can get for free with ease anyways. His movie's appear to be from a good source though. (You're not supposed to sell fansubs that you didn't make yourself)

Anyways ,would it be that if a fansubber sold his translation on DVD that it would stop being a fansub and begin being considered as a bootleg?

Not goin' to buy anything that I can download from the people who do it non-profit.

No, it would still be a fansub. See Cruel Angel's subs. The guy is literally a fan of Kamen Rider who subbed his R2's of Agito, and now sells down sampled DVD sets to people. Thus, it's still a fan sub. The difference here is that HK bootlegger's are not fan's of the show. They sub and sell shows purely for the money, much like going to work.
