I just bought this DVD, thinking that it was another version of the movie, Sengoku Jieitai 1549. But actually, it was more of a TV special that ran for two episodes, each episode lasting more then One and a half hour. There were a lot of former Tokusatsu casts included in this series. This series's lead was Takashi Sorimach (Iba), and Watabe Atsuro (Ishimura).

The story was adapted from one of the best selling novels in Japan, Sengoku Jieitai. It sells the story of one platoon of soldiers being transported back into 1600, during Japan's Sengoku Jidai (Warring Era). The soldiers were caught in the middle of an all important battle in Japanese history. The Sekigahara Campaign. It was between Tokugawa Ieyasu and Ishida Mitsunari. Both warlords tried to recruit the soldiers to their side, in hope that the modern weapons will help them win the battle. A different in opinion between Iba and Ishimura ended up with Ishimura deflecting to Mitsunari's side.

"For the sake of peace, there is a need for sacrifice."
- Kobuyakawa Hideaki, from the series.

I won't tell what the ending is, for I feel that this is a show that is worth your three hours. Each episode was around One hour and 40 minutes. Although there are some point of the show which are draggy, it was a great production nonetheless. An interesting side is to see the battle between modern weapons and the weapons of the past.

You seldom get to see a tank fragging like...hundreds of troops. Or maybe a single rifle wiping out...more then a platoon? Or even a few platoons of olden days soldiers.

Still, I wish to watch Sengoku Jieitai 1549. That movie has Apaches in it...and this one...nope. :D

I give this show a 4/5 rating. Highly recommended!

the 2005 one is called Sengoku Jieitai 1549, and has a different story and characters. Hope I can get to watch all the versions...
