Russell Crowe as Robin Hood

This new trailer is ALOT better. Crowe looks intense, and it looks like their going to delve into the political struggle with King John here, which was ignored in the Costner version. I don't know how it will do, box office wise...after The Lord of the Rings, people seem to want more magic and SFX to go with their epics, but maybe visual spectacles like Clash of the Titans http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=264291&page=34#and Avatar, a dose of medieval realism will appeal to the masses.

The new trailer actually makes it look more like a Robin Hood movie. The first one sort of looked like it was trying to be Gladiator with bows and arrows.

I don't mind a little bit of "grimdark" in it, as long as it doesn't go overboard. I mean, if you think about it, although he is referred to as "Robin Hood and his Merry Men," I doubt they would have been all that merry with the whole "trying to survive and avoid getting caught and hanged" thing. Sometimes, sure. But would it have been as easy as some versions try to make it out to be? Probably not.

And that's why it's fiction. If we were to approach everything from a realistic perspective then most of our most beloved, happy-go-lucky fairy tales would be horrifying and ghastly. That's why the Kevin Costner Robin Hood was so great; it managed to be just realistic enough to add a feeling of historical significance but was never so dark that it didn't feel like it came from the pages of a storybook.

Like I said with the "overboard." I like a little bit just so it isn't guys in tights singing and dancing around (unless it's Mel Brooks, of course), but not so much that it's painful to watch.

I won't be seeing it on opening night, but unless I hear that it's utter drek after its first weekend I'll probably see it in theaters...

I might o see it but I'm not expecting to be "wow" afterward.

By the way, I'm placing my bet now: 5 gummy penguins says that Robin Hood has a wife and child who die by the hands of the king. I already gathered he had a father who hated the king apparently. But it's russel crow. he cant star in a damn movie without his character's family dying in the first 20 minutes.
