Araki was a cool guy. I was very lucky enough to meet him briefly a couple years ago. During Stronger he was very gung ho about doing even the dangerous stunts himself, which sometimes brought him into conflict with the actual stunt guys (they became good buddies as a result though.)

Beyond losing such a great guy to the world, and a piece of tokusatsu history, this hits me a lot harder than I thought it would because my mom just got over a esophageal cancer scare and I know how much of a death sentence it can be. To think that he managed to battle it for so long is actually rather incredible. (the effects of the surgery, I mean, they do take quite the toll on a person)

I really hope he rests in peace, the world has definitely lost a legend today.
