Rider Kick
Just a passing through Toku Fan....
Now this came out in the spring, but only now did I have time to marathon through it and what a ride it was a rather familiar ride but a good ride none the less. Now we look at Zetman and one of the first things I thought when I saw this show is, “Wow, it’s like the second coming of Guyver.†Surprisingly I’m not too far off as some of the story elements are the same such as a youth finds he can transform into an incredible being of power and fighting ability….and then his life goes to crap nearly immediately after. Though the story of Zetman is actually a story of two boys Jin a homeless boy with incredible strength who has a circular lump on his hand which later is the reason he can turn into the creature known as Zet. Then there is Kouga Amagi who is from an insanely rich family whose a bit too into toku heroes and actually has his families vast and power company construct a combat suit called Alphasz(Pronounced Alphas) based off his favorite TV show as a child “Ginja Chojin Alphasz†to combat evil……yeah…..
Now the zoanoids, I mean Players are creatures that were created as intent to create perfect artificial humans. Or at least that was the original intent it became more of a hobby for the rich men to bet on them, gambling as they were pitted against other monsters to fight. Which of course as we all know is going to end well for everyone in that scenario. It went on until the players finally gained awareness and killed off everyone in sight. Told ya so. Because of this, many players feel that humans mistreated them and that they are far superior and deserve better. The primary antagonists The EVOLS with the players just kind of being the grunts or in types of series such as these the meat shields for our heroes to go through to get to the EVOLS.
The EVOLS are kind of like the Lucky Clover group from Kamen Rider Faiz if I can find anything to help make point of reference too. They follow sort of code of conduct they established for themselves and avoid needless killing. Also unlike the players they don’t suffer from molecular break down as badly so they don’t meltdown like other players. Most EVOL take pride in their rank and are offended if they are ever called or mistaken as players. The true antagonist for the series is a man named Seiji Haitani who is kind of like the king of the EVOL who intends to wipe out humanity so that only the Evol can take it over and wants to make Jin/Zet his right hand man and will go through any means to ensure that happens because Zet is the only thing power enough to stop him. Over all the series is pretty good, but half the time I kept thinking I was watching the Guyver just because a lot of the story elements were the same. And while that is no means a bad thing you have to wonder just how heavily that series influenced this one. Check it out after the jump!
