Queen Cleopatra is a Documentary coming to Netflix Produced by Jada Pinkett Smith. This debate-provoking documentary will be on Netflix this May 10, 2023. Most of our history teachers told us Cleopatra is Macedonian Greek. Some individuals assert that Cleopatra is of Egyptian ethnicity, but Jada Pinkett-Smith’s documentary convinces many that she is Black. However, this documentary offended some Egyptians, who petitioned to cancel its release. Eventually, the documentary was taken down due to allegations of hate speech. Greeks also seem to claim Cleopatra, so they also started their own petitions.

As I read about the different claims on Cleopatra's ethnicity, I couldn't help but think of that famous line from Shakespeare's play: 'What's in a name?' Maybe instead of focusing on her ethnicity, we should focus on her legacy and the impact she had on history. It's bonkers how Cleopatra's ethnicity is still a topic of debate, even after all these centuries. Who knows, maybe in a few hundred years, people will be debating whether Elon Musk was actually a Martian or not

LOL, I couldn't help but laugh when I read about the petitions from the Greeks and Egyptians claiming ownership of Cleopatra. If only she had left a will stating her preferred ethnicity, we could have avoided this drama altogether!

History can be shaped by propaganda and politics. One moment Cleopatra is portrayed as a white queen, the next moment she's a black queen. Maybe the truth lies somewhere in between, or maybe it doesn't matter at all. I mean recently we had a TV show where Anne Boleyn is black, She is a white historical figure. As I read about the controversy surrounding the documentary, I couldn't help but wonder if all the fuss is just a clever marketing ploy. After all, any publicity is good publicity, right. Jade obviously wanted controversy so people will watch this.

A thousand years from now people will be debating the ethnicity of the Kardashians or the impact of TikTok on society.

Hey there, like, as a proud Greek, I totally understand why some people wanna claim Cleopatra as their own. But let's be real, she was totally Greek, right? I mean, she was part of the Ptolemaic dynasty and they were all about that Greek culture and language. Plus, have you seen her portrait on that coin? She looks totally Greek to me, with that cute little nose and those fancy braids. So yeah, let's own our girl Cleo and celebrate her as a fierce and fabulous Greek queen of Egypt.

The Cleopatra movie I watched back in the 80s had a latina actresses play her. Regardless of what the color of her skin is, I think she is Egyptian because she lives in Egypt. Lucy Liu have Chinese parents but she is American because she is born in New York.

Egyptian Here, I totally understand the desire to claim Cleopatra as their own. She was, after all, the last pharaoh of Egypt and ruled over our land with grace and intelligence. While it's true that she was part of the Ptolemaic dynasty and had Greek ancestry, she was still deeply connected to Egyptian culture and traditions. She spoke our language, worshipped our gods, and even styled herself as a pharaoh in the Egyptian way. Plus, let's not forget that she was queen of Egypt for over two decades, so she must have been doing something right. So yeah, let's proudly claim Cleopatra as an Egyptian queen and honor her legacy in our own way.

I believe that Cleopatra is black, I understand the controversy surrounding the documentary. It's disappointing to see some people deny her African heritage and downplay the contributions of black people in history. Ancient Egypt was part of Africa, and it's only natural to assume that Cleopatra had African ancestry. The fact that Hollywood movies portrayed her as white only reinforces the false narrative that white people were the only ones who made significant contributions to history. It's time to acknowledge the diversity and complexity of ancient civilizations and celebrate the accomplishments of people from all backgrounds
