When a person dies their spirit goes onto the afterlife, or at least we would like to believe it is always that easy. But the reality of it is that it isnt always that easy, while in most cases a soul passes on, there are many cases in which the soul remains trapped on earth. In such an event the trapped soul begins to despise and envy the living and this results in the soul becoming corrupted, twisted and malevolent which causes them to go insane and prey on the living. This phenomenon has been happening for countless millenia, and for every generation one group has taken it upon themselves to deal with these Soulbeasts and properly exorcise them, the secret society known as Specterus which has hidden itself among society since it's founding. Using special exorcism weapons, and suits that allow them to shift between a physical a spirit state that have been passed down through several generations within the families of the six founders of Specterus the organization has secretly protected the masses for numerous generations known as the Soul Hunters.

Now in the year 2009 it is time for the next generation of Soul Hunters to step up to the responsibility of protecting humanity from the Soulbeasts. But this time something is a bit different, it seems as if more souls are being trapped on earth, resulting in a Soulbeast outbreak larger than any before. Now not only must they continue to exorcise the Soulbeasts, but they must also unravel the mystery of what is forcing the spirits to remain on earth. Just what is it that is holding the spirits on earth? Is it something man made? Or something far more sinister? Only time will reveal the answer.

Rules:

1. no godmoding our powerplaying without permission(with villains it can be allowed if I give you permission)

2. if you wont be able to post for a while have someone(other than me) cover for you and do not join if you dont plan on posting

3. Any outcast, loner type characters will automatically be rejected from this rpg.

4. Relationships are allowed but dont make the whole rp about it. Also if you play multiple characters they cannot be in a romantic relationship, and no instant romances, let it happen naturally, its much more interesting that way.

Info on Specterus: Its a world wide organization that tracks Soulbeasts and charges members of the founding families with the the responsibility of tracking and exorcising Soulbeasts. As a secret society they arent exactly fans of adding in members that dont already have a family connection to the organization (though on rare occasions orphans are adopted by families into the organization), as a result most families within the organization arrange marriages between their children in order to keep their secrets in the organization. Over all they do things in an effcient manner that keeps them hidden from the general public.


Gear:
Soul Pendant: The pendant worn by all members of the Soul Hunters team which not only identifies them as important people within the Specterus organization, but also allows them to summon the Soul Suits which allow them to take on spirit forms and fight on the spiritual plane.

Soul Weapons:
Throughout the generations a set of weapons has been passed down in order to be used by the Soul Hunters, each can change between physical and spiritual forms. Upon defeating a Soulbeast their special properties automatically send the soul to the proper afterlife.

Name: Kain Virsayan

Occupation: Paranormal Investigator, fiction writer

Desigation: Red Soul Hunter

History: As of right now he is the oldest son of the Virsayan family and as such he has been predetermined to lead the Soul Hunter leader since before he was even born, a duty that he had later accepted with pride. Throughout his life he thoroughly embraced the study of the supernatural and paranormal, something that Specterus encourages among its younger members, and seemed to take more interest than most others. As he grew up this interest continued to grow and in time he used his vast knowledge to create a small paranormal investigation business which also acts as a cover for him and the others that allows them to more easily track any spiritual activity that may be happening, and he uses it as a way to sell a few of the books he writes which of course center around supernatural events. Personality wise he is a fairly nice guy who is pretty easy to get along with, and he is generally pretty easy going and rarely ever gets worked up about anything even if he is feeling anxious or nervous. Though he is the leader of the team he doesnt really see himself as a leader, but as a guide of sorts that does his best to keep the team doing things the right way. Unknown to him, he is also engaged to the White Soul Hunter as the result of th organization's tendency to arrange marriages between it's members, but due to the fact that something like this may distract him from his duties it has been hidden from him for the time being. Plus there is the fact that if he did know, he would likely vanish like a pizza at fat camp, never to be seen again due to his views on certain things. Even if he did know about the fact that he had only seen her once or twice before the formation of the new team he wouldnt actually feel anything for her anyway.

Like all members of the Soul Hunters he has also recieved a considerable amount of combat training, and since his weapon is the Soul Saber it was only natural that he specialized in swordsmanship. In battle he fights with a series of well aimed stabs and slashes at the various weak points of Soul Beasts in order to finish them quickly with as few casualties as possible. In addition he tends to spend almost no time strategizing and tends to make things up on the spot since he feels that most plans go awry anyway.

A good portion of the team's members seem to work for him in his paranormal investigation business, known as Geist Inc. He is a pretty good boss and pays well despite the fact that they dont usually get any actual work, though he can be difficult to deal with as he has some odd tendencies and can get a little violent if anyone steals his prized Ghostbusters memorabilia. He also doesnt like certain types of music being played in his present. His entire office seems to have a highly unprofessional look to it as well due to the fact that it, and the rest of the building has several random things that he seemed to just find andd drag back including, but not limited to, a slot machine, a pinball machine, an old school Pac Man arcade game and a bunch of old school radioes which are set up in various places around the establishment, all of which are tuned to the same station at all times.

Note 1: I am in no way endorsing any religion and do not intend to force my own personal beliefs on anyone, im just using the general concept of an underworld and a heaven of sorts as kind of a plot device.

Note 2: In my bio it may appear that im breaking one of my own rules, but I am not. Its merely a way to make things a little more interesting and Specterus does things like that from time to time and its not like the Soul Hunters would be exempt from such things either. If anything they are more likely fo it as their family lines are considered to be the most important in the organization.

History: The fourth daughter born into the main branch of the Armitage household, Alice is the latest in a long line of spirit mediums (often mistaken for mere fortune tellers). Alice’s branch of the family is the strongest, without the need to use charms and trinkets. They are so in tune with the spirit realm that they are revered throughout the world. At present, only a few surviving members of the Artimage family continue their otherworldly business, and with her siblings having passed away on two separate occasions years ago, she is now the only one left. When Alice was still quite young she lost her twin brother when their home was set ablaze in a series of arson attacks. The two were trapped underneath the rubble of their home. Her older brother Samuel used himself as a human shield in order to protect her, but in doing so, sacrificed his own life. Alice’s special talent did not manifested until reaching her sixteenth birthday. The very idea of the family’s talent frightens her immensely tends not to let anyone know believing would be consider a freak or fraud.

Like all members of the Soul Hunters has received a considerable mount of combat training. In order to strengthen her mental barriers through meditation has also incorporated Shandong Praying Mantis Kung Fu. The combination of the two methods has proven adequate. With this Alice shares her gift in certain investigations to help the victim’s families and lost spirits. There had been some speculation of an arrange marriage, but the one Alice is to be married has been kept a guarded secret. A secret the young woman does not seem to pry into. Alice believes that such information even given would make her worry about this person in battle or…deteriorate the barriers in place.

Alice is a soft spoken person who asset any given situation by looking at both sides before making a course of action. The young woman takes her responsibilities seriously and yet that does not stop her from having fun now-and-then. Alice is a caring person who holds each of her teammates dearly to her heart and would do anything just to bring a smile on their face. When Alice finds a little free time one may find her swimming or at a dance club.

History: The earliest thing that Hitomi remembers of her life is being raised in an orphanage, never knowing her true parents at all. Many years ago, she was found at the doorstep of said orphanage, with no clues of her real parents, other than a letter written in crimson letters that said, "Take care of this child.". Hitomi grew to be a shy, meek child, and would rarely associate with the other children in the orphanage. It was around when she was 5 that something happened with her. She could see things that the other kids and adults couldn't see with her yellow eyes. They were the spirits of children who had died while under the care of these people. When she tried to voice her complaints to the adults, the young girl would be scolded and told not to tell lies.

So she suffered quietly for the next five years, not saying anything of the things she saw. It was about that time that Hitomi was finally adopted. It wasn't a normal family, however. It was the Ohara family, which was another family in the employ of Specterus and whose members were the Purple Soul Hunter through the generations. The previous heir couldn't have any children, and so this was the reason for their adoption of Hitomi, along with receiving word about her 'gift'. The yellow eyed girl would then be taught how to defend herself, learning how to wield a whip as her weapon of choice. Once she was old enough, she joined Kain's paranormal investigation business, as a cover and also so that she could put her 'gift' to more use, as she learned through her training that she could detect Soul Beasts as well as normal spirits.

Hitomi has grown up to be a shy, easily startled woman. Though her training has toughened her up considerably to what she once was, she still usually keeps quiet and has a problem with stuttering when she speaks. Despite these problems, she has a code of ethics that she strictly follows and will not hesitate protect her friends or stand up for herself when it really counts. She doesn't know what to think about Specterus arranging a marriage for her, and is worried that she won't live up to the expectations of her future partner...whoever that may be.

Name: Shinobu Maeda

Bio: Shinobu is the eldest daughter in the legendary Maeda family -- a clan of well-known exorcists that stretch back to the feudal times, having served under the watchful eye of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Naturally, with a history this rich, the current generation has carried on the task of exorcising evil spirits and providing spiritual advice to those who walk into the courtyard of their temple. Because of this history of servitude under the Tokugawa shogunate, as well as a long-rooted connection with Specterus, Shinobu was immediately put into training in order to inherit the status of shrine priestess, knowing that she will become the Maeda family's primary exorcism specialist. At the time, however, she was also on track to inherit the Yellow Soul Pendant from her Grandmother to become the new Yellow Soul Hunter. Of course, she did not know this at all, and it was only a matter of time before she found out about this.

That time would come soon, when Kain Virsayan paid a visit to the Maeda temple, looking for Shinobu. Shinobu, now an attractive 17-year old young woman that attended high school whenever she did not focus on further self-improvement at the temple, stepped forward to meet him. It was then she would learn about the existence of Soul Beasts, as well as the organization known as Specterus. She would also learn about the battle team known as the Soul Hunters -- who utilized a mystical power that allowed them to battle the soul Beasts. Remembering the training she went through back when she was a young girl, Shinobu readily accepted Kain's offer for her to join the team, knowing that the safety of millions of people was on the line, as well as her family's honor.

Shinobu is a pretty quiet individual, not really one to say much in a given situation. However, when spoken to or when she feels the need to express her thoughts or opinions on a certain manner, will speak up, albeit in a soft tone of voice. In battle, however, Shinobu is a fierce fighter, giving it her all whenever she fought. And on a final note, Shinobu is not really keen on the idea of the arranged marriages set by Specterus, instead believing that one should be able to find love freely. However, because of the soul Pendant she inherited, as well as the vow she made to herself, Shinobu has no choice but to accept the terms, hoping that the man she will be engaged to will love her for who she is, not because of her family's prestige or her looks.

Bio: Matt Nagakiyo is the only heir to the famous Nagakiyo family. The Nagakiyo family have been known as great marksmen dating back to Ogasawara Nagakiyo, a famous archer from feudal times. The family technique has been passed down generations and Matt is the only heir left to inherit the technique. Matt had a rough childhood, after his mother died shortly after his birth he was now the only child left. His father was extremely strict with him because he was his only child. From a young age Matt was forced to go through heavy training of Kyudo. Matt was naturally gifted and became an excellent marksman.

Matt was then taught with the pistol as he grew older. His father tried to make him into a perfect soldier but Matt had too much of his mother inside of him. Matt always had a soft side he tried to hide from his father. Then Matt was finally recruited by Kain to become the next Soul Hunter. Matt's was trained heavily in combat. He was trained a little in hand to hand combat but his speciallty is with long range. Matt was considered a master of Kyudo and could hit a target 60 meters away with his bow. He never misses his target unless he wants to.

Matt always wanted a normal life but could never have one due to his blood. He also isn't happy with most of Specterus's policies. He doesn't believe in their rules for marriage. He always wanted to find love on his own and settle down one day. His father would kill him if he ever knew how Matt really felt. He was going to be a Soul Hunter from the day he was born.

Name: Dante Kelvir 

Age: 25

Bio: The Kelvir family are famous soul hunters and have connections to a group known as Specterus. For generations now, it was set in stone that the eldest male will take up arms as a Soul Hunter. Although Dante’s sister, Pandora showed more interest in becoming a soul hunter then Dante did, it was forbidden by family law for her to do so, becoming Soul Hunter Green also meant becoming the soul heir to the Kelvir’s vast family fortune.

And so, Dante was trained by his father to become the next Soul Hunter Green, though at first he never really took anything he said seriously, dismissing it as mere “Fairy tales” And the “Delusions of a crazed old man” none the less, the brutal training continued. When Dante turned sixteen his training was complete, a ceremony was to be held to name Dante the heir. However, tragedy struck when Dante heard the blood curdling scream of a monster, a sound that came from deep within the catacombs hidden underneath their mansion. A demonic creature broke free and tore everyone in the mansion to shreds, yet Dante was the only survivor his sister Pandora was no where to be seen, the only thing that remained was his father’s soul pendant.

Afterward, Dante did some research on his family’s history to learn more about the Soul Beast that attacked and killed his family. He learned that a hundreds of years ago, his great, great Grandfather: Kyline Kelvir battled a fierce demon. When the demon was finally brought down, using the last of his strength he placed a curse on the Kelvir family swearing that any female that was directly related to Kyline’s bloodline would be cursed to become a demon like himself. Of course, precautions were taken, with Specteru’s help the Kelvir family was able to “lift” the demon curse, sealing the demonic power within a pendant called the Demon Seed...Dante would also discovered that his sister’s curiosity got the better of her, and she unsealed the pendant’s power without knowing causing her to become a demon.

With knowledge of this at hand, Dante felt that he was not yet ready to take up arms against his sister, who was now a demon he decided to travel the world working as a bounty hunter to hone his skills, and track his sister’s movements. Personality wise, Dante is a loner at heart, he’s a lone wolf often preferring to work alone he’s stubborn, and a man of few words. However, once his trust can be gained he can be a very loyal person. Being Soul Hunter green, he possess great skill at hand to hand and melee combat.
