Power Rangers Mystic Force - "Stranger Within" Part 2 - Talkback

Hate to compare, but this is where usually Doug is weak. Where in one of Sloan's shows, Leelee would be a bumbling hanger-on that had nothing to do with the plot except for running into trees or falling in mud, Leelee's an actual formidable and integral part of the show.

I'm quite happy for this unexpected development.

Voted 10; Favorite Parts:

-Madison shedding a subtle tear: That was just... wow. That hit me almost in the same way that Kat's cry for Doggie during Shadow Part 2 did. It was a powerful moment for Mystic Force but a subtle one and I enjoyed the little nod that Madison does care about Vida a lot. Chip does too and so do the others but Madison has more to lose than just a friend. It's great that the writers put that in.

-Chip & Vida: Again, they were both great. I know quite a few people on the forums enjoy constantly pointing out this huge flaw in Vida's acting, but I've never seen it myself. I don't think it's award winning material but it's never bothered me or irked me in a way that forces me to point it out every single review I make on an episode. I think it's fine but it really shined here. It was great material to work with which helped and the chemistry between her and Chip really helped. You could honestly feel that deep, friendship bond they have with each other. Chip's Ranger Voice was incredible this week and so was Vida's. They really put a nice effort into it and it made the scenes become even more enjoyable and enthralling.

-Claire: Im not a huge fan of the character. The actress is nice. She doesn't have the best material to work with, but that's not an issue. She's ok as the character Claire. But I liked how they showed Claire wasn't "stupid". She's a bumbler and a basket case sometimes but not stupid. Kewl thing for the writers to put in.

-Leelee: Holy... Hell, people. Some figured Leelee was Necrolai. Others suggested that she could be a servant. I sided with the "Leelee=Necrolai" and I think everyone in the end was pleasantly surprised. I know I sure the hell was! That was AMAZING. The entire scene at the end had me thinking "Whoa! What the hell is going on?!". It was a huge revelation at the end. Ooooh man. I was completely surprised and amazed. That sealed the score of 10 on this episode for me. Under other circumstances I would have put down a 9 because of all the Chip and Vida interactions. But Leelee's big secret really pushed for a 10.

-NZ Action: All the action we got was amazing stuff. Enjoyed it a lot

Nitpicks:

-I really hate how short the Megazord fights are. I'm not saying "omfg they cut too much from Magiranger". No, Magiranger is partly to blame for the short fights anywho. But I'm just saying, in general, I hate short Megazord battles. I don't demand that they take a minute long. But a 15-20 second battle wouldn't hurt. I hated that about DinoThunder and NinjaStorm as well. I miss the old days when Megazord battles were fast, furious, and in your face. Sparks flew and the villains have this energy about them, they gave it their all to defeat the rangers. This Megazord action was great because we got an excellent new finisher. But at the same time the battle was barren and empty. They just did a finisher and that was about it. Dissapointing there.

-Pose: Sad to not see any "evil" Vida Morph and pose.

-No Ball: One thing I liked about Magirangers battle was when Houka turned into a ball and launched at Tsubasa. It wasnt goofy at all (in a Magiranger sense). I dont want to pick PR apart and base it by what Magiranger did. But I'm just saying.

Psycho Babble:

-Koragg: I love Koragg. I also enjoy the "honor" motiff he has going. But I hate his "stance" on things. He plays this dangerous game where he loves knowing the fact that he's powerful and he needs capable opponents so that he can prove to himself his own power. To convince himself of his power, to really test the limits and grow into it. That's great stuff, but I just find it annoying that Koragg would rather let his team mates be destroyed for the sake of a silly challenge. I like it when Villains act as a team. Work together and really try hard to get the job done. Necrolai and Koragg have the same goals. To release the Master and take over the human world. So Koragg should seriously realize the problem of letting his team mates be destroyed (which he has few of.) If you think about it, Necrolai has been the most helpful to their "cause" than Morticon or Koragg. She's gathered info, gotten half of the fire heart map, she's constantly gone up to the surface to battle the rangers and help out the monsters. She follows orders but even when tension rises she remembers what the goal is and still plays as a team. Helping Koragg and Morticon whenever they need it. She's a great example of how everyone villain should be in the "active role" of things. Yadda yadda. I just don't like Koragg's attitude of letting his partners be destroyed for the sake of proving his power. He's not on the best of terms with Necro or Morti, I know. But he should also realize how he would be handicapping his own goals by letting them be destroyed. THEN again, I suppose I could speculate that Koragg already knew Necrolai couldn't be destroyed and thus, provoked the rangers into destroying her to see how much their power had really grown.

But now a loop hole arrives. If Necrolai can't be destroyed, exactly how can the rangers stop her? If she's immortal then she could easily destroy the rangers. Sure they could gang up and destroy her. But should would always revive to strike again. This means the Rangers can never truly win unless towards the end of the series Necrolai becomes good or they find a way to destroy her for good. Or seal her or something.

Rambles Rambles.

Who's Leelee's dad?

From the Rangerboard episode discussion:

5. I have a feeling that the Incubus is leelee's dad a.k.a Necrolai's husband.

I had forgotten all about that monster. That would be interesting to see.

I think it could work cuz in Magi Vancuria really hate him..for leaving/deceiving her and theres a hint that they have been lovers before*I think* so in MF they could make Necrolai hate Incubus for leaving her and let her raise leelee on her own *typical family drama*

The 2nd Evil said:
Wasn't it Nai and Mare who showed hatred towards Incubus more than Vancuria?

I mean, yeah, they could reshoot some stuff like they have been all season.

If they adapt the Forbidden Magic two parter, have Chip's friend that becomes a target named Dale, and title the episode "Rescue Ranger", I will do what TWoP's Strega did with the Angel Episode Smile Time and give it a perfect score on that alone.

(Strega said she would give the episode an A+ if Angel was a puppet by the end of Act One, and if he "vamped out" in puppet mode. Both happened, and she gave the episode an A+)

Some thoughts on the subject.

Who is Incubus?

Monster from MagiRanger Stage 23 & 24 (Forbidden Magic & The Mentor's Risk) Incubus was taking souls to create a bomb that would kill a lot of people as a sacrifice to allow N. Ma to be reborn. One of the victims was the son of the owner of the gym where Tsubasa (MagiYellow) used to box.

Tsubasa used forbidden time magic to see how Incubus did it, and as a consequence, got a swirly vortex of doom in the middle of his chest. Ouch!

Yeah I liked that. It was first time in the series (including Rock Solid) that I really believed there was a familial bond between the two.

-Megazords

I agree. As you say, Magi's battles were far too short and/or simple in a lot of episodes but for me that makes MF's cuts even more annoying. It's especially irritating when, as in this ep, there's a scene that wasn't needed and/or went on for far too long. In Rock Solid, it was the motorcycle scene, in other eps, it's been scenes involving Toby and Claire, this week, it was Chip's potion making scene. I liked that they showed him making the potion, but I felt while watching it that the scene went on too long. I think they could've gotten the point across in half the time, leaving a bit more time for a proper zord battle. I suppose I shouldn't complain about this because I do have the Magi scenes to watch whenever I want to but it still's an irritation because I sometimes find mecha battles more fun to rewatch than morphed ones.

-Pose: Sad to not see any "evil" Vida Morph and pose.

Haha, Houka's deep voice in the Magi scenes still crack me up. It probably would've been cool to hear Vida do something similar (albeit with an 'evil' voice, not a deep one).

-No Ball:

I forgot all about that. I was too busy being surprised by them cutting the little sequence where Vancuria stands with her back to Tsubasa for a second before detecting and interrupting his attempted attack. That one move said 'I'm way too powerful for you' more than anything else in that fight imo. But since almost all of the original fighting in the ep (it was only the Necrolai/Leelee fight I didn't think much of) was pretty good anyway, that one sequence doesn't really matter.

I was more bothered by the way they edited it. The way Chip went flying didn't make sense because of the way they cut the sequence I'm talking about.

Well you know what happens in Magi. [hide]With Leelee being Necrolai's daughter, I can see them using her as the catalyst. In a really subtle (or me reading too much into it) kind of way, they've already hinted at this with the 'Three months with the humans has made you go soft'. If they combine some kind of event happening to Leelee (maybe she realises she truly likes the team), and Vancuria's (apparent) acceptance of the 'yuuki' (or courage/belief/heroism in MF), I can foresee a pretty good, and not at all sudden, betrayal.[/hide]

Oh, I don't remember the monster's names very well in Magi. So thats how I didn't know. Thanks

Stranger Within Part II: A Barren Wasteland full of Potterness, sentai and...more sentai?

Lately, I have been thinking about this during MF. Who will be the next one...after this season. I personally hope it's someone cool and fun, but let's not go there. The season's dullness in the beginning was hell. Even to this day, those episodes aren't worth watching repeatedly.

Only ep that was decent was "Legendary Catastros." Though it set up the "Centaraus Phoenix Megazord", I kinda liked the way they matched up to Nick's actor, "Firass Dirani's name source. I was told by an RB member that his name meant, "Horse Rider"...or something like that. BAH, let's get on with the skinny.

Recap with Relish: the DJ, Necrolee's pure valley girl slut like attitude and Vida's henshin of Vidalai!

Morty credits the plan to Necrolai for the plan done well. Nothing too great..well except when Koragg was leaving during this scene...priceless.

Vida's still trapped in the circle left by a wormhole, which ceased through the rootcore. Nick tries the Koragg hotline, Chip goes "sand in vagina" mode and says that Koragg did it, the others follow...unknown to them that Koragg is a WOLF..not a vampire...wow..Tsubasa did the same. Coincidence?

What I did LIKE was the tear scene in Maddy. Good to see it again...since when...Time Force's finale. Chip's confrontation was fine.

They took the apple scene. Easily nice of remaking it...except...that the others were actually convinced of eating them. Tsubasa recognized it and threw it to the ground, that's common sense. But I'll let this one slide. For that..blame Chip.

A hell lot of it is taken from Magi 12. My earlier intentions of giving it a "decent" grade had changed my mind when I saw that fight scene totally ripped off. Why didn't Chip fire that...blasted light-mahjig. And Vida's coming out of the vampire thing WASN'T convincing at all. It felt more rushed and it lacked soul.

The "Tenkuu Mahou Slash" dubbeth as..."Spirit of the Ancient Titans." I'd prefer it to be called..."Force Force Slash Ja-Bing attack!" It's catcher. Oh and Leelee's Necrolai's bit- -daughter.

As I expected, Magi's "Boxing gloves" is the FIRE HEART. Xander goes Rocky.

Dun-Dun-Dud-Dun Dun-Da-DunDunDun-Da----Wait.. it's original..

*takes out the last part.

5/10
