Aisha, Tanya, and Katie are awesome, but have they got as much focus as their white counterparts? Why hasn't there been any since 2001? And that's only three over how many other white women rangers?

1. I'm not saying that the black women rangers should have had the focus episodes of all their white costars combined. If all the rangers had, says, three episodes of focus directed among each member evenly, then I wouldn't be complaining. But say, Katie had two focus episodes, while Jen had how many more? I love Power Rangers, but one must recognize the fail in their media.

That ties in with sexism that permeates white societies. Have you ever noticed that in media, men of color could be darker-skinned or even overweight, while even if women of color are chosen, they are more light-skinned and not overweight?

I also can't help, but notice when a Sentai where there is only one women ranger is adapted, they cast a very beautiful white woman. This doesn't mean you should disengage from all visual storytelling ever, but recognize it and call it out.

Also, if Saban worries about there overfilling their racial quota, Ninja Storm had TWO Asian Rangers and the universe didn't overload and short out.

I don't know what's going on with the current snafu, but it sounds like typical bullshit that's around everywhere.

Bad, yes.

But Power Rangers deserves a nod, at the very least, for the fact that it doesn't Whitey McWhiterson it up every year. In seasons where there is two girls, I think only two have only white girls in the roles.

A lot of other shows would not have that kind of track record.


Beyond that, Katie got plenty of focus for a Time Force character not named Jen/Eric/Wes. Got more than Maddison at least.

Tanya's stuff was there and built up, but due to the nature of how she got brought into the show I'm not terribly surprised it appears lacking. Really though, she got more than Kat in the same season (Zeo) because Kat's entire thing was "Be Kimberly, but with a funny accent".

Aisha is the flattest of the three, but really so was everyone else at the time.

The difference was that the rest of them went on to Zeo and Turbo where they got character development. Aisha didn't.


And why only signal out the black girls?

Really, through out all of this, if you're not a Red Ranger or vital to the plot some how (Jen) you're going to get **** all for development if you're lucky.


If you're not lucky, you're Madison.

You come off as some one who likes to decry the white man as an absolute, while ignoring the fact that other societies are just as bad if not worse.

Racism isn't just white people hating on others. It's a rainbow of hate and poor judgement.

At least Power Rangers tries to include other races every year.

Power Rangers deserves credit for that, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be called out when the white rangers get more focus than rangers of color. Just because matters of prejudice gets better doesn't mean people should fight for it to get even better. Heck, some fans of the show do that.

Just because a society like America apparently has less isms like sexism or racism doesn't mean it shouldn't be combated. I'm addressing America's problems with isms, not other countries.

Race as a social construct is much, much younger than you think. The West played a major role in forming the concept to justify the slave trade of Africa. The West dominates the world in many manners, including beauty. Have you heard of skin-lightening cream and people who have surgery so their eyes would be more western? America and other majority white countries played a major role in that. We might not be responsible for all of the world's problems, but we played a freaking considerable role in them.

People of Color who call this out aren't playing the race card nor hating on white people/European-originated populations individually, though reactions like this give a good justification to. Many of these activists have white friends and allies. They are just criticizing the system that gives us such privilege, and want everyone to be equal. The same goes for many other discriminated groups.

What you're doing here is saying, "Shut up, it could worse!" That's derailing, please stop. It's awesome things aren't as worse in some manner as a decade ago, but that doesn't mean there are still some horrible discrimination around, like lack of representation in visual storytelling or inadequate and problematic representation. I love Power Ranger, and would probably watch Mega Force. But that doesn't mean I can't call them out when they do a fail.

Well, I'm talking about Power Rangers, which is a American/Western Production with Japanese footage, so my focus is on Western isms, and their affect at home and abroad.

Racism is terrible-but there are better places to fight it than over a kids show where we are vague on the reasons of what exactly is going on, on an internet forum.
