I've got a cousin living in the UK (somewhere northwest of London, can't remember the specific name of the town).

My parents basically "forced" me to learn Tagalog. When I was a kid they'd just ignore me if I spoke to them in English. Also, at the elementary school I went to we actually had a specific teacher that came in to teach a Tagalog class. My mom signed me up for it every year I was there.

Now while I wouldn't call myself fluent (my younger brother and sister are both way better than I am), I can carry on a pretty decent Tagalog convo.

Well, not really since birth. Maybe since I was three years old...

JK

I DO live here you know.

oh yeah, heh I guess I should have said I meant those who lived outside the home country, of course normally if you were born and raised in the country youd know the language. Just wondering since every filipino in the UK I meet knows it and I kinda feel a bit left out :(

I kinda wished I had that....although knowing my parents they'd still cave in and speak to me in English, a class would have helped a lot......I suppose (even though I pretty much flopped in French......and Spanish) but tagalog has a bit more of a personal connection and well interest. And another thing, when I go back to Philippines I found it incredibly awkward when I have to talk to relatives, their English isn't bad but it seems a bit forced and I feel like I'm insulting them in a way

Pinoy here living in the GTA!!! Actually I was born in Laguna, Philippines but I moved to Canada when I was one and a half.

I fully understand the language, but it's a bit harder for me to speak it.
