Overrated and underrated sentai series

Overrated

Liveman- Great storyline, villains, and the core three heroes are good, but had two of the blandest characters ever (Tetsuya and Jun'ichi) and a lot of bland filler when the series didn't focus on its main storyline.

Jetman- Great characters and villains, but the storyline is nowhere near being the masterpiece that some fans make it out to be.

Gekiranger- Intriguing storyline and excellent villains, but had a subpar cast due to weak character development.

Gokaiger- Not as overrated as the other ones I listed, but far from an epic season that some make it out to be. The characters were great and the tributes were fun, but the storyline was pretty simple and the villains (except for Basco) are some of the worst ever in Sentai.

Underrated
Hurricaneger- Generally viewed positively, but as much as fans love four of the characters (everyone except Yousuke and Kouta), there's a lot of good storylines as well. Specifically the Goraijers' and Shurikenger/Gozen story arcs.

Abaranger- Despite a lot of silliness, has one of the best storylines and set of villains (especially Jeanne) that few people seem to know about.

Go-Onger- Disliked by many fans, but I find this series to be quite fun. I really liked the characters and the execution of the Engines/partner aspect. Not great, but above average, which is better than what it's given credit for.

One thing I find truly overrated is the use of "bland" as a catch-all term for "I didn't like this."

I agree with the above poster that Go-onger is underappreciated. I don't think it anywhere near deserves its reputation as the worst or second-worst (after Goseiger) Sentai series.

Yeah, but i might have mispoken about Go-Busters, all the promotional material for the show promoted it as an innovative, fresh, hip, swell new super sentai, it fell flat on it's face and basically is gonna suffer the same problem Goseiger did, Go-Busters had to come after Gokaiger, the only new thing i've noticed is there's no title scream, if that's one thing there getting rid of, thank god for it. However the switch from Spandex to Leather, i don't think it'll catch on it might only last this season and then TOEI will go back to spandex suits or suits made Akibaranger style.

Not all the promotional material said that. A few articles stated that it was supposed to be a fresh start for Sentai, but I doubt the target audience of the show (who are 3 to 5 years old) read any of that. The promos did not call the show "innovative, fresh, hip, swell", neither did the toy commercials, etc.

Just what is "it fell flat on it's face" supposed to mean?

The title scream is part of Sentai. It'll be back.

I don't think there will be suits in an official Sentai that look like the Akibaranger suits. They are obviously designed for a parody. Wouldn't be surprised if we're back to spandex next year though. Gekiranger tried suits without belts and it didn't stick.

Series after anniversaries tend to be more experimental. Zyuranger, Megaranger, Gekiranger, and now Go-busters, probably the most drastic so far. I haven't seen Hurricanger, so I can't say if it's the same.

And I know two of those were after series that were retroactively post-anniversary, but the pattern's still there.

The Eight Doctor said:
I love humans. Always seeing patterns in things that aren't there.

Overrated

Gekiranger- Intriguing storyline and excellent villains, but had a subpar cast due to weak character development.

I tend to agree with this one. People tend to overlook the super slow first act (basically everything before GekiViolet/GekiMasters) that really lacked much development or any kind of arc for anyone but Red. That being said, the latter half of that series really does deserve much of the praise it received, and taken on its own, would be incredibly good.

What was so good about Gokaiger again?
Challenging villains?
Multidimensional characters?
Maybe innovative mecha action?
Respect or proper attention to older series?
Oh wait none of this happened.

So much false nostalgia.

The fact that it gave every fanboy something new to bash? We'd heard more than enough hate for Go-onger and Goseiger.

It also gave everyone more reason to excessively praise Gekiranger, which treated its heroes as an optional afterthought to the fascinating (not) story of a pair of emo-kids

- Gaoranger. Few people seem to like this show, but for me it has a lot of charm.

not quite true for Gaoranger cuz in my country, Gaoranger is the most popular sentai series of all :buttrock:
Wild Force - US version of Gaoranger - is lame, to me; but Gaoranger, they rock :)
Btw, before I know Shinkenger, Gaoranger took the 1st place in my mind :)

Oh yeah, Changeman fans need to lighten up. I mean, if people hate Shinkenger, Dekaranger or Gokaiger, but that's their thing and I won't hold that against them.
Why do people hate Shinkenger, I wonder ?
I'm a Shinkenger 's fan and I can't find anything for people to have grudge against Shinkenger ?!?
