OOOs Roleplay Gear and Medals Discussion

nice. what did you use to remove the dye?

I used Pactra's Racing Finish RC75 Lacquer Thinner & Cleaner, because I've used this line of paints for yeeeeears & I know how quickly it can damage plastic if you're not careful. But it's also far more durable than most paints. The line's meant for the Lexan bodies of R/C cars (it bonds on a molecular level,) and it's pretty harsh stuff.

That said, I'd recommend testing out a NON-acetone nail polish remover first if you've never done it before. It's considerably weaker & will take longer to remove the dye, but it's also much safer & less risky.

Thanks for the tip. Is the dye on both sides of the medal, or just on the outside?

also, am I supposed to brush it on or just dunk it? Never really messed with paint stuff before

The dye's only used on the outside, but I didn't remove anything from the back side (where the QC sticker is.)

Definitely a small brush, or a Q-tip. You don't want to remove ALL of the dye, just the dye on the raised parts of the Medal's face. So, don't totally soak the brush or Q-tip. Just try a little at a time at first & use more if you need to. Also keep a clean cloth at hand to wipe away excess. And since this is your first time with this sort of thing, better try it on a Medal you already have a duplicate of.

I was looking at some model building tutorials and I was thinking of using weathering/dark wash on the textured parts. Ho do you think that would work out?

Also, what are some affordable transparent paints? i never liked how orange the lion medal is.

I'm also thinking about a wash on the Kujaku Medal, but I've never used any actual transparent paints/dyes. I was planning to just thin out whatever paint I use & let that sit into the recessed areas. I think that, combined with a silver backspray, should make the Peacock appear a few shades lighter than it's surrounding area.

Of course, it could go horribly wrong. Which is why I'm glad Mitsuwa seems to be restocking Series 5, haha. I don't think I ever saw Series 4 there.

Anyone ever tried to make a Taka coin like the one from the final episode where Ankh gives Eiji all his cores including the Taka coin with the crack in the middle?
That would be awesome to have:castlerock:

woot just got my SP set today XD man the switch is tiny as hell...... then again I should be used to it by now.......... now the only DX CORES that I'm missing are the OOO Driver + Taja Spinner ones, can't wait to get those eventually ~
