Im not. I like getting them early.
The episode was alright. The villains fighting at the end was a bit forced and a yawn fest.
The only real thing that bugged me in this episode was the forced team up with Kamdor and Flurious and the Fearcat betrayal. I really couldn't understand why Kamdor would team up with Flurious in the first place. If Kamdor could put the Mercury ranger out of commission, wouldn't it have benefitted him to follow Flurious and wait for him to attack the rangers then take the canon for this own in the scuffle? But they have to follow sentai so they cant do that. It just didnt seem like he really needed to be partnered with Flurious.
Flurious, because of the Fearcat betrayal, was useless in this episode again. Sure he had some random drivers that made the Fearcats better. Sure he made a giant robot. But he didnt pilot it and he didnt send the putties. In the end, he really didn't do anything more than Gaja had done. He's still useless. He has no monsters of his own and doesnt leave his throne room. He doesnt even let Norg do anything. You know, Norg could have been the one to slip the rangers the poison medals. Dressed up all comically and such. It didnt have to be Kamdor/Mira.
It just doesn't feel as though they're being creative with these episodes. The plot was very weak but I can't say anything bad about it because it's no less than what MMPR1 plots had done. I can imagine the narrator saying "Today! On Power Rangers! The Rangers are on TV! *clip to dax' nervousness and everyone laughing* But the evil Kamdor has other plans in mind (clip of him making the deal* and teams up with Flurious to poison the Mercury ranger! *clips of Mira slip laughing* With the Mercury Ranger down will our heroes be able to stop this deadly alliance? Find out next on the Mighty Overdrivin Power Rangers!"
So I shouldnt be so harsh. But the episode lacks a bit of the fun or the heart which makes such a simple plot so likeable. It needs more super-charged music getting you excited or cheerful. Hell, it needs better comedy. More Doug Sloan/MMPR type goofy ass comedy just to make you laugh because it's so wacky. And the personalities of the rangers just blend in together. Like they dont really have their own persona outside of their focus episodes. They're just there to take out the enemy and not provide anything. I kind of miss the dynamic character portayals. NS, DT, and SPD had amazing character styles. They had their personalities turned on 24-7 in the episodes. Were always in character, even if you didnt agree with them. They were themselves and nothing else. You knew what Dustin was all about in every episode and we didnt have to have a special episode to remind us. You knew Sky was a hard ass in every episode and that sometimes he chilled a bit but you always knew where he was coming from. We didnt have to have some random episode in the middle of the series to remind us of who he is.
And same with Conner. He was an asshat from day 1 and all the way through but you always knew what he was all about and how he was going to act, whether you hated him for it or loved him.
It's like the OO rangers really don't have distinct persona's or if they do, the writing team isnt doing a good job of allowing the characters to show it in the episodes. Because so much time is dedicated to the villains and other silly nuances that we really don't get enough time to let the rangers be themselves and talk amongst themselves.
Whens the last time we got a good scene where the rangers are at base and just doing recreation, talking amongst each other. I cant remember if we ever had one beyond the first episode. I guess what I'm saying is, what they're giving us is "ok" by previous season standards. However, there's nothing really grabbing you and making you smile as you watch. Even though MF had a terrible lack of focus episodes on the rangers (besides Nick), we still got time with all the rangers in each episode to know who they were and what they were all about. Even in Nick centric episodes, his friends were always in character, always had their personalities turned on and the writing allowed them to show that in the episode so we never forgot who they were and what they were all about.
Blah blah blah.
This is another "meh" episode.

When the zords got damaged, then the Rangers got on the ground quickly. Gosh, Bruce Kalish needs to watch the whole episodes of PRiS-PRWF and DO WHAT THEY DID IN THE PAST!
That's how the Rangers' zords got damaged and then Rangers got escape and showed when they landed on the grounds or streets.
Flash Point Megazord is one of the most DUMB name ever.
Ugh! I don't know if I'll ever watch the next episode ever again.

Watching and writing...
Eh, this for me is probably the weakest episode of OO thus far and I'd be suprrised if it isn't the weakest of the entire series. Which is a darn shame because it was REALLY close to being good but some stubbed toes here and there prevent it from being good and leave it only average.
-The major problem with this particular episode is that it had to cram semi-important sentai stuff with a mixture of Saban Era PR and Disney Era PR.
By the latter I mean, the Rangers getting medals of recongition is a Saban era plot idea ("Official Power Rangers Day") that apparently they wanted to update and use. Now I have no problem with taking the old and often dumb Saban plots and making them realistic but this wouldn't be one I would have chosen.
Now the Disney Era PR stuff centers around the reporter JJ. Her stuff is the kind of thing we wouldn't have seen in the Saban mainly because she's really good as an actress and the character is fairly well done compared to say the Photographer in Time Force.
That being said, the whole idea of PR being interviewed on TV is somewhat cheesy but thats not what bothers me here. What bothers me is...the minor production/editing flubs that either nobody noticed or didn't care. On to the comments.
-Cheesy plot on both levels with the villians conspiring together and the Rangers being interviewed. Both had something good about them though, the character of JJ as earlier stated and the villians I'll get to below.
-Dax. Dax reminds me not of Bridge but rather a hybrid of Dustin and Chip in many ways. The running gag of nobody knowing who he is is kind of funny when it's shown once in a while. I hope they don't overdo it because that would kill the funny (or it already has in some people's opinion).
-The Fearcats. yeah the Fearcats. They suck and I don't want to read anyone giving the nonsense about the Ashu/Qusters, because they suced too. All either pair does is cackle and destroy stupid sh*t, for all their considerable violence, they're very cartoony and non-believable characters.
-Tyzonn ties one on. As in, here he is now bugging Dr. H for his own personal zord. Which is a first that I can remember seeing a Sixth ranger going out and wanting MORE powers/abilities as usually those characters have a different origin and so on. I don't object to it (far from it actuallly) just think its a little weird.
-now to the weakest part of the whole episode, the SENTAI footage. And this isn't necessarily PR's fault but rather Boukenger's fault. I'm sorry, I am planning on getting the metal little packs of the Boukenger mecha to put together. BUT, these fight scenes and some of these monster designs, homages they maybe of earlier Sentai mecha are just BUTT-FUGLY. The monster robo today is a prime example of that. I
-As for the mecha fight today, I'm going to get the BoJ versions and just call them Flash Point Megazord because I can but I still don't like that design and I think in general, it's a dumb design in both series.
Screw-ups:
-Mack telling everyone to look for the cannon, problem here is Satoru tells everyone something and snaps his fingers with his usual moronic "Attack" so that's kind of a tough edit. I blame the Boukenger footage more the PR editor here because they likely had timed out the minium of sentai footage they had to use. And WHY a team of rangers either looking for precious or conducting Search & Research would want to 'Attack' is beyond me and is one of the reasons I dislike Boukenger.
-The Rangers counter-attack, get blown out of their cockpits and end up under random chunks of rock and debris. Okay. Quick somoene check the rock quarries, Amelia Earheart is bound to be there somewhere.
-The Betrayal is something I'm not real happy with but I understand they had to do it. So I'm not going to comment on it any further.
-One thing I am going to point out and that is the villians brawl at the end between Kandor, Flurious and the Fearcats. See this is the sort of thing Boukenger NEVER tried pulling off and as a result it's villains, largely SUCKED. Wherea as with OO, we get honest to goodness villian vs. villian fight scenes, so YAY.
The more I think about this episode, the more I believe it to be built not so much around the rangers as it was around the character of Jessica J and she pulled off her role extremely well.
