OMFG!!! Power Rangers is JAPANESE?!?!

Good old Ctenosaur Video. Ah the memories. I still got all the tapes I ever bought from them as memorbilia.

I'm pretty sure I still have my VHS of Hakaider, the KinguRenjaa intro arc of OhRanger episodes, Kamen Rider Black 1-4 and eps. 1-4 of GaoGaiGar.

I think that was my first Ctenosaur order ever. I had bought a bunch of sentai team-ups from his booth at Charlotte Heroes Con and after that I started to research tokusatsu and Japanese superheroes. I remember getting to sit down and watch those all through after they arrived and I was just living epic. :laugh:

My first dose of reality was when that lost episode came out and said that the season was based off a Japanese show. So I looked back I notice how Rita's lips didn't match what she was saying, how Tommy was never shown with Rita in person and How Trini's groin looked a little too happy for a girl in one fight scene. So I thought: ok. So they copied the first season from this japanese show. But that show probably ended after one or two years. But Power Rangers were around for more than five years. Surely we didn't copy everything! All the season after the first one were just American born spin offs. But then I notice more stuff like how come the fight scenes were in lower quality than the non ranger scenes and how come the yellow time force ranger was a lot taller and bigger than the red ranger. I reason that out of my head and after Time force, I didn't stop watching but I stopped watching it religiously.

Then June 2006 came. I went to go visit my cousin in Canada and he showed me youtube for the first time. He said you could find almost anything you want to watch on there(although its not the truth anymore). So was feeling nostalgic at the time since it was only a few weeks since my high school graduation and a month before my 18th birthday, so I decided to look up power rangers and other old shows. I was watching old episodes and clips like there were no tomorrow. Then about a few days later while i was looking up power ranger clips, I discovered three clips. They turned out to be the openings for Dairanger, Kakuranger and Carranger. After that everything just clicked for me. Everything did come from Japan. By the time I went home from Canada, I watched after super sentai opening, and I learned a lot about super sentai especially after watching every ending special about super sentai after each Boukenger episode to that point and could never look at power rangers the same way ever again.

I first found out it was originally a Japanese show when I browsed a local comic shop back at home around the time the original MMPR came out. They had a video rental section where you could rent all sorts of Asian flicks, from Kung-Fu Theater stuff to anime. It was there that I stumbled onto a video casing of what I thought was the Power Rangers, then the store clerks proceeded to explain to me what the original Super Sentai series was all about. At the time, I was kind of confused about it, but I did get the general idea that "Yeah, PR originally came from Japan, and it's more brutal than what Saban would show over here." Of course, back in those days, I thought Tommy doing the Hadouken on the other five was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life (now I think it's the most awesomest thing EVAR). When I heard "The Green Ranger dies in the original", I was like :O_O:.

Of course, a few years later, as Dino Thunder airs, I stumble upon Super Sentai.com, where it would go more in-depth with the series.

I first figured it out surfing the web one day too. I decided to look up Power Rangers, since I had just watched it on TV (ABC Family or Toon Disney or something). And then I come across something that said that all the footage of the fight scenes (& Rita) were Japanese dubs! I didn't believe it at first, but then I put it all together...and it suddenly made SO much sense! :laugh:

Around that time, Power Rangers was seriously getting to be my "fandom". For awhile (even though I knew about it), I refused to watch Super Sentai, because I didn't grow up with it. But after awhile, I decided to see if it was on YouTube. I saw it, and I thought it was a little weird at first; but I soon began to like it. And eventually, I began to LOVE it!!

Two Words: Yellow Ranger

I first know this that the Yellow ranger had no breast, tall, a groin and wondered why she didn't looked like a girl (Which, later I found out on Zyuranger the yellow ranger was a man). The battle footage looked like it was recorded before and had "80's" look to it. And after years of growing up, I found out it was Japanese footage and that lead me into a world of Toku that I never thought possible.

I found out around 05/06 but i've soaked alot up in that space of time but Geki is my first full Sentai season.

Psshhhhhh........probably 2003? Ish? That's when I joined the Monster Zero forums and saw it mentioned there, I think that was how I found out.

I fell out of watching Power Rangers not terribly long after I went into remission and after that I just never really cared or thought about it.
