Nintendo DS Lite Question

I am planning to buy a Japanese Nintendo DS Lite. I am wondering if could it play American Nintendo DS cartridges as well or do they have the same "region block" like the PSPs. Thanks!

Beware though, since you're buying a system out of region and NOA does not recieve money from it. You won't have the warrenty through NOA, but through whatever region you purchased the system from (ie-Japan, China, Europe, ect).

While the handhelds are all region free...that's the gray area you enter when buying them.

I think what I'm gonna do is I will just buy the Japanese games that I want such as 東北大学未来科学技術共同研究センター川島隆太教授監修 脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング and buy the American DS system.
