Ninja Turtles go Anime

*watches video* ... When I thought that they couldnt possibly mess up Ninja Turtles. I mean NINJA TURTLES. Cmon! That's right up Japans alley... holy shitaka.
How can they mess up a show that was already one big steaming pile of cr*p to begin with?
Seriously, the 'ninja' aspect in the original cartoon was nothing but a total and utter americanized bastardation of the meaning of the word .... nothing to do with how Japan sees ninjas. On top of that the basic premise of the story is total idiocy from beginning to end (turtles that get mutated, turned 'ninja' and act like complete morons the whole time).
Seriously, there was no masterpiece there to begin with so I fail to see what's there to be indignified of.

Regarding other 'nipponized' shows, I haven't seen Witchblade, Powerpuff or Highlander, so I'll limit my comments to the ones I have seen:

- Transformers: Japanese did a GREAT job on these shows: I loved virtually all of them, from Headmasters, Masterforce to Victory, as well as Micron Densetsu, Super Link and Galaxy Force: every time there is a nice major plot with various subplots evolving. Sure, it's not the 'original series and cast' anymore, but I do feel the TF-vibe whenever I watch those shows.
Haven't seen the Japanese take on Beast Wars unfortunately, so I can't say anything about that.

- Spiderman: with the Spidey Toku-show of the 70's, Japan strayed pretty far from the original, keeping only his costume and some his powers. I that respect I can understand some don't like it. But if you watch the show as a seperate entity, disconnected from it's roots, it's quite an ejoyable toku show with some great suit-acting (love the poses and fight scenes). I mean, it's like a one-man sentai, what's not to like?

Thanks!
Witchblade: seems OK graphically speaking albeit not very faithful to the original
PPGirls: graphically a major improvement over the original, can't say anything story-wise (don't even know the story of the original one)
Highlande: I don't see anything wrong with this. Graphically it's very good and closer to the Highlander franchise than that crappy Highlander cartoon ever was.

But that's the point. PPG's animation is SUPPOSED to be like that. The series is a parody of old school animes like Astroboy whilst being influenced by american culture. This anime completly misses the point of that

Not to mention TMNT's co-creator Kevin Eastman produces it

Witchblade's pretty good, it's not supposed to be based on any Witchblade comic, it's supposed to be an original story, and it's doing it pretty well. It's got some fresh ideas that I don't think I've ever seen.

PPGZ...well since the show hasn't even AIRED yet, I can't really judge it. But from everything I've read about it, it's going to try to be more of a parody of the old school anime than the original series. Guess we'll see when it airs. The animation style for it at least does seem retro.

Really? See, I never got that point and I'm sure I'm not the only one. If it's meant to be a parody, I guess they could have done a better job because I completely missed that point.
