[Anime] Next Mech-Anime to watch?

If you're looking for something like Gundam Build Fighters, Danball Senki is the next closest thing.

I'm going to warn you thugh: while Danball Senki has a lot of Build Fighter's themes…it's WAY more beybladey then Build Fighters is. Still, it's a good watch and they do a pretty good job of making a show about kids building little robots intense.

Nobunaga The Fool is another enjoyable series I'd say to check out.

Any of you guys heard about Heroic Age? It's an anime based on the Greek Heroic Age set in space in the far future, with the main character being a bishounen Heracles, and his quest is based on the Twelve Labors. Many characters share names and story of their Greek counterparts, with the main flagship called the Argonaut. While it's supposed to be a mecha anime, the main character doesn't use a mech so much as having an gigantic, alien lifeform that he can turn into. Kinda like Ultraman:sweat:.

It's pretty cool, but you'll have to bear the same-face syndrome again, since the character designer is Hisashi Hirai.

What do you look for in a mecha series? Do you prefer character driven shows, story driven ones, or a heavy action focus?

Also do you like idealistic stories or more gritty ones, or perhaps somewhere between? Finally do you gravitate towards Real Robot or Super Robot?

I've watched A LOT of mecha, so if you give me some details on what you like, I should be able to give you some good recommendations.

Thanks for the info. I had G Gundam and Gundam 00 on my radar. I've seen the first episode of each of them and they seemed promising. I just went with the original because I'd heard that even a lot of the AU series are filled with lots of nods to the original and it's best to have seen that in order to get those references.

IIRC, Turn A was made into two Compilation movies, but I'm sure the 50 episodes run is better. and idk about that, I started with Wing Gundam then G Gundam thanks to Toonami before getting into Mobile Suit Gundam...I think, wasn't that bad.
Gundam Age is pretty good/interesting too, different take as it goes thru a generation of pilots.

Hmm..not sure, While I enjoy the action, if the story doesn't really go anywhere I sort of lose interest. & The characters have to show some development, probably why I watched Valvrave...that and the mechs were cool. And Somewhere in between, maybe 55-Idealistic, 45 Gritty.
Real Robot? Not to say that Super Robot series aren't great in their own right, I just like to see when a pilot driven mech is able to be damaged and repaired, and built up instead of just appearing from a cloud thanks to a rain dance or something. When you say Super Robot I think Escaflowne, GaiGaiGar, Might Gaine, etc. well...Super Robot Wars too lol.



Last Buddy Complex episode aired today, at least until season 2 shows up, hell...what kind of show only has 13 episodes for a season that's not British? Can't figure anything out unless you have 30 episodes or more...Unless you're decade, then you're a mess at the end no matter what...

Skip Buddy Complex, I found it to be a bit boring and generic.

Speaking of Super Robot Wars…The Inspectors Anime is freaking epic and worth a watch.

Last Buddy Complex episode aired today, at least until season 2 shows up, hell...what kind of show only has 13 episodes for a season that's not British? Can't figure anything out unless you have 30 episodes or more...

A lot more anime than you might think. And most J-dramas. I myself prefer shorter shows. The ideal is 20+ episodes, and the cap for me is 50 episodes. Go beyond that and I give up.

Here's some recommendations:

Zegapain: A Sunrise series with a fairly good mix of plot, characters, and action, it also has a interesting Matrix-esque element to it. It's main con's are a weakish first couple episodes and using early 2000's CGI for the robots.

Fafner: A Xebec series, it has great character development and music, though the quality of the action is somewhat uneven. Also has a good sense of setting. It's main cons are having character designs by Hisashi Hirai and animation that can look a little dated.
Also it has a sequel coming out this winter so it would be a great time to catch up on the show.

Eureka Seven: A Bones series, it's main focus is on the primary character's romance, also has great music and a unique style and setting. It's main con is that the plot takes a while to actually start.

Full Metal Panic: Has a great mix of action, comedy, and romance. It also does an interesting job of balancing Real and Super Robot traits with the lambda driver. The main con here would be that the anime doesn't actually finish the plot of the novel series that it's adapted from. You can always check out the manga if you want to finish the story though.

Infinite Ryvius: A very character focused Sunrise series with excellent music that has great action on occasion. Often described as Lord of the Flies in space. Also rather hard sci-fi. It's main con is that the mecha element doesn't come in to play until around episode 8 or 9.

Argento Soma: A very strange Sunrise series and one of my all time favorites. Features much of the staff of Infinite Ryvius so that would be a good bar to measure if you'd enjoy this. Very character focused and often a little slow,it has an interesting mix of both Real and Super robots in one show.
The show's main con is that it really has to be watched all the way through before it comes together, it's definitely not a show that will be too everyone's taste, but it's great if you're the right audience for it. If you do watch it make absolutely sure to avoid spoilers:169:.


Also, to back up what the last poster said just skip Buddy Complex, the only way I'd recommend it is as a cure for chronic insomnia.
