Newer Sentai Turns Me Off

I think this problem only becomes an issue when it comes to the later mechs and power ups and add ons and junk they get. I tend to like most of the basic mecha (I actually liked all three Go-Onger robos before they went combo crazy).

You like the Go-On robos but think the Saima, Ayakashi and Gosei monsters look bad? I don't understand you, sir. >>

Anyway, if we got rid of most of the auxiliary mechas, it would be a good start. DekaWingRobo, MagiLegend, Unigolon, DaiTanken, the add-on GekiBeasts, GT Roader, KyoretsuOh, DaiTenkuu, Datas Hyper and Mystic Runner are all rather unnecessary. That leaves us with a Jetman-style mecha set up, which is a good model to follow.

Why is it that the "anime-esque" styles are considered "no good"? I know that it makes the acting not as good as older Sentai, as well as making it cornier. But is it's corniness really a bad thing? Like, why is this style considered bad?

Right back at ya. :D I know they're goofy and weird looking, but EngineOh, whatever the second and third robos were called, look cool on their own when it's just three mecha joining together. When they combine or add in auxiliary mecha, I start to lose my liking very fast. I think they did goofy rather well.

Because people don't behave the way most anime characters' emotions are exaggeratedly portrayed? Because it looks stupid for real people to act in a way that can only work in animation?

Well I don't think Sentai is trying to be realistic. As for "stupid," wouldn't that just be personal preference?

Wait. Did you even watch Deka and Magi beyond the first few episodes? How were the DekaWing Robo and MagiLegend "auxiliary" mecha? They both were pretty much middle season upgrade robots, like the Great Titan in Flashman and many examples from mecha anime.

That doesn't mean it should do things that work in one medium but not in the medium it deals in. Can you give a reason why Sentai and Rider should have anime-type hijinks?

I don't think it "should." But I don't see how it's not working. It just looks like a different style. I honestly never really cared, as it never bothered me.

Maybe add-on mechas is the more accurate term. But the point still stands. Both used the team power-up as an excuse to add more mechas to the roster. Neither were really needed. (I find Blast Buggy a more creative add-on mecha than yet another five-piece combiner in the vein of Victory Mars that is DekaWingRobo.)

FlashTitan I wouldn't really consider an "upgrade" mecha more than a "back-up" or "secondary" mecha, since it was only brought out after Kaura damaged FlashKing.
